I am not able to view 1st edition ships in the collection component nor consequently am I able to build squads with them. Am I doing something that prevents me from adding them or are they simply not available yet? If they are not available, then will they be? Not having them in the squad builder at the outset seems like a major oversight especially given all the effort to produce the conversion kits.

You can't individually select 1st ed ships you can only select conversion kites. to build squads you have to choose extended, 2nd ed is only the ships that are re-released.
