The card says drop or launch ,does that mean that genius allows me to use the one template from the front or back of the ship ?

Also doesn’t this card effect the user also ?

Genius says " After you fully execute a maneuver, if you have not dropped or launched a device this round, you may drop 1 bomb." It does not let you launch the bomb only drop it (out the back arc using a 1 straight template unless you have an ability that modifies this. The reference to launched is only to specify that you can not have done a launch, if you have that ability from another card, before triggering Genius.

Thanks for clearing that up mocking bird. So would genius also effect the user seeing that you’d be in range one when the bomb detonated?

That is very much dependent on the bomb. Genius doesn't grant you any protection from your own bombs but if you are able to get past range one or if you drop a seismic bomb and aren't at range one of the target rock you can avoid taking any damage from your own dropped bomb.

There are ways you can Genius without suffering your own bomb. Captain Nym can prevent the bomb from going off, for example, while Sol Sixxa could drop one using a left template, then (red) barrel roll right to avoid the explosion. Similarly, a scum Y-Wing could move in fast (even its 4-speed K-Turn), drop a bomb with Genius, then use Afterburners to get the heck out of dodge before it explodes...
