List of reusable V1 material

By h0racio, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hi,

Krechevskoy's topic about obsolete tokens ( here ) made me wonder if someone knows of a list of material from 1st edition that hasn't changed. I'm talking about pilots, modifications, dials... Maybe there are none but this could be useful for players that don't have enough cards in their deck.

(I'm obviously talking about friendly games, not tournaments)

Thanks!

Very few things are truly unchanged. The only game items that explicitly cross over from First to Second edition are:

  • dice
  • ship models
  • plastic bases & pegs
  • asteroid & debris tokens
  • most bomb & mine tokens
  • certain condition tokens

There's also a number of things that are reasonably functional and able to be carried over:

  • range rulers (but not movement templates)
  • focus, evade, reinforce, cloak, and stress tokens
  • shield tokens , with minor modifications
  • some rarely used items like first player markers and critical damage tokens

Because of extensive changes in the game, very few dials, ship tokens, or ship cards are viable between editions. To my knowledge, the TIE Fighter dial is the only one to undergo only cosmetic changes (green maneuvers are now blue). As most ship cards and tokens are based on the older, "Pilot Skill" system (ranging from 1-9), they would likely prove (at minimum) confusing in the Second Edition arena... especially when unique pilots, special abilities, upgrade slots, and points are concerned. Also important to note is the lack of centerline marks, bullseye arcs, and firing quadrants on older ships' tokens.

In a nutshell: keep to those bulleted lists to be safe. :) Anything I missed, fam?
