Tomorrows News

By RendTheHeavens, in Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game

So a couple of weeks ago(I think?) there was a mention of a "new type of product" for L5R being announced on 10/10. Any speculation about what it might be? My money is on a campaign style product similar to Terminal Directive for Netrunner.

I'm still hopeful its a Descent style game with minis for crossover with the RPG, but I do expect its a Campaign style game, possibly themed around the Lion/Crane conflict for Toshi Ranbo, or the Lion/Unicorn conflict that is just kicking off.

Erm, isn't it supposed to be a new type within the L5R LCG product line ? Not expecting a boardgame or whatnot here... but a new way of releasing new cards for the LCG. Something that is neither a clan pack, nor a dynasty pack. I would love a narrative campaign like Terminal Directive, but then it wouldn't be entirely new either.

I don't recall the article specifying that it was a LCG product specifically just a new L5R product. If they were going with an L5R themed Descent set its actually a fairly easy game to set up as you already have most of your rules pre-written with Descent and Imperial Assault, just need to theme them to a Samurai setting. And as I said you have the added advantage of providing miniatures for use by the RPG crowd for characters and encounters as well as providing options for some easy encounter tiles so are stetting up a second market for the game. And with the recently announced agreement with Privateer Press for their L5R Mini's Crate having a game to use those models in aside from the RPG could only be of benefit for both companies and setting up a campaign style game would be far easier than trying to lauch a whole mini's range game right now.

Also in October, you can expect to see the announcement of the next product coming to Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game. While the details of this product remain shrouded in mystery for now, we can say it is not a Clan Pack or a new cycle—instead, it is an entirely new type of product. Keep your eyes on the Fantasy Flight Games website on October 10 for your first look at the future!

Well that may kill my dream (although nothing says they can't have two announcements right), which means it defaults back to the Terminal Directive type box that others have hinted is expected.

This is also my wish, but then that wouldn't be an entirely new product... ?

What ever it is, I want Mantis in it.

Not one or two cards, real representation.

It is for the FFG version of L5R though.

Sadly my delorean's top speed is 87 mph so I cannot travel to the future.

It's unique decks randomly generated and themed after new samurai churned out from a name generator. ?

I'd love to see a deluxe box dedicated to the Mantis , bringing them up to the same number of cards available to other clans by the end of the second cycle and first two Clan Packs. Going forward after that, I'd like to see them get the same support as the other seven factions.

Stop trying to get my hopes up

I was going to go there too. Just replace the Keyforge houses with clans......

The possibilities:

- A new type of multiplayer product, be it using the Enlightenment Rules, or an all-vs-shadowlands type box.

- The announcement of L5R, the digital version (or any other L5R-based video game), although given that they’re still in early access of LotR Digital, it seems too soon. But it also seems weird to create an entire new videogames studio as FFI just to release one game.

- Or, after the sleeves announcement, they’re just releasing a shiny all new super duper oh my Kami set of tokens, dials, rings, status cards, just to slap us in the face. With a sock. Used. By a hobo. With urinary incontinence.

I hope that it's not the multiplayer game, which seems to be more at an alpha stage than beta. However, the only way you can play multiplayer is if everyone has their own rings, which I guess you'd have to provide with a multiplayer box. Knowing FFG, they'll package it with 1vs1 cards to move the product.

What I would like it to be is the 1st of 12 packs that, when opened, unleashes the full power of Fu-Leng upon Rokugan.

Hate the Shadowlands all you want, that would be a neat way to market the acceleration of the Shadowlands into the game.

Each pack contains more and more Shadowlands cards and the 12th pack has their stronghold.

They're also releasing Mother's Embrace , which is a videogame version of Mansions of Madness.

That box looks huge, probably meant to store your collection. Hopefully there are wooden dividers on the market that can fit into that upon release...

Looks like a serious step toward Toturi's Army.

Not exactly. Mother’s Embrace is published by Asmodee Digital (not FFI), but is developed by an independent studio.

Gaijin Customs is going to get a workout with this set

Still going to end up in my Phoenix Sword deck with Yoritomo.

No more than 3 copies of a single card by title can be included in any combination in a player’s dynasty and conflict decks.

Sadly, Lion don't get 6 'Toturi's in their deck.

I do like his flavour text.
