Yes, other book suck, cuz character rub sucky.

Nope. Never said anything about the quality of the book. Can’t. Haven’t read (or listened to) it. In fact, I’d even say that the Vos stories I’ve read in the comics are well-crafted (hard not to be with the Ostrander/Duursema team working on them). They just don’t appeal to me because of the character.

Dark Disciple was ok and entertaining for me. I'm easy to entertain. . .

Truth be told, I may end up reading Dark Disciple for research purposes. A new addition to one of my groups has a character who is convinced Lassa Rhayne is her mother. Wookiepedia has been helpful, but I’d like to get a feel for the character before eventually having them meet.

Mocking another's opinion is classic toxic behavior. Just sayin'. It'd be so cool if we could be the change we want to see in the world.

I listened to Dark Disciple too, it was an interesting take on those characters.

So in summary...

Book suck.

No, other book suck more so this book not suck so much.

No!? Book not suck, I like book!

People who think book suck are not nice talking about book, but can say book suck, but should not say book suck.

I think that sums it up....

Hilarious and on point.

I also find it interesting that we can have lengthy discussions about ANY of the books (even concerning the most controversial authors or topics, even with titles including "the worst" in the original post) and remain (on the whole) civil, "to each their own and all that". While the mere mention of an opinion, positive or negative, of any franchise film made after 1983 has people sharpening pitchforks and looking for torches to light.

Maybe because books are easier to dismiss in our own personal canon?

Honestly arguments over subjectivity are pretty much dumb. The point I was making aside from it's the song that never ends, is telling someone that they aren't being "fair" criticizing something they didn't like is just inaccurate. HD bought and read the book, sounds like he gave it a "fair" shot to me.

The logic path that he shouldn't be so critical because there is other stuff in the IP that is worse sounds pretty unfair to me. That sounds like someone can't say 'ouch' when they stub their toe unless they've had stage 4 foot cancer....

I find your characterization lacking insight and seemingly intentionally trying to stoke a fire that doesn't exist.

And I find your concern and need to comment on it both hypocritical and inconsequential.

You indirectly called me about about not being fair, but couldn't be bothered to quote me directly? Now we go on to ad hominem attacks? I apologized to @HappyDaze and commended him for presenting valid arguments instead of just complaining as is so common. You dropped in here to mock people and not contribute to the conversation, which is baffling to me as you are more often positively contributing to our collective conversations. I don't know what the problem is here, but I don't feel like it's me.

Last Shot wins for having an Ewok slicer who gets angry for being stereotyped as an ignorant tribal.

The rest of it is just run-of-the-mill Star Wars stuff.

Every once in a while, I think I'll give Star Wars fiction another try. Even with the consciousness that, to be frank and probably rude, I'm intellectually slumming by doing so, I cannot seem to lower my expectations enough so these books can clear the bar. I read the first few chapters of Thrawn: Alliances the other day, and, just...ugh. Every cliche possible was used. The writing was the essence (quintessence, even!) of mediocrity. I just...ugh, ugh, ugh.

But wow, I am at least impressed that this book at least tried an off-color joke.

Yes, Thrawn: Alliances was pretty bad. He's just so over-the-top better than everyone (and he knows it (and he makes sure everyone knows he knows it)).

I'm reading Canto Bight right now. First of four parts is not too bad, the second is absolute 'I prefer to watch paint drying over Skype' trash, and the third is pretty good. I'll probably have time to start reading part four in a few days.

I have noticed that they're pulling interesting people, particularly good POC authors, to do some short stories: Ken Liu(I liked his short story collection a lot; The Grace of Kings was a little too close to home for me to enjoy), Nnedi Okorafor (Who Fears Death is such a good genre novel), and some others I can't think of at the moment. So there might be hope.

I highly recommend listening these when working on mindless chores, it's less insulting to one's intelligence that way. We can't help that we're all people of high intellect any more than we can help our dashing good looks and lovable personalities.

I have a feeling that I already know the answer, but...

POC?

People who aren't white are writing Star Wars!?!? Oh no!

No. Idgaf about the skin tone of an author, nor how they pee. I can't tell you the ethnicity of any of the authors of books on my shelf unless their picture is inside the cover.

Skin tone shouldn't be a determining factor in whether someone gets published, and putting someone on a pedestal because of it is basically the worst form of racism. It's like saying "Aw, look at what you did! And all while being one of those semi-wee-taw-ded (insert group here)! Aren't you special?"

When I see that term, POC, I know there's about a 90% chance that the person who used it doesn't have anything to say that I'm going to be interested in, ever. That's one of those "Control the language, and you can control what people think" terms, and I won't stand for it. It's also beyond wee-taw-ded because there are no transparent people in existence, never have been.

But, ya know, feel free to jump to conclusions. Have fun with that.

Considering your little rant here is exactly what I expected to be your next post, I'm pretty comfortable in my conclusions about what you wrote.

Pretending that wildly successful and critically acclaimed authors were chosen for their skin color - the implication being: why else would someone publish a black author - is typical racist bull.

Yep, have fun with that. We're done.

White's still a color ya know. Just like vanilla is a flavor.
