Criticial Effects and Defense Tokens

Is it clarified anywhere which critical effects happen before defense token effects and which happen after?

For example, assault concussion missiles crit effects go in effect before you can spend a redirect, but could you use an evade token to cancel the die with the crit? (and before you point out that I'm using the long range effects of an evade on a black die, let's assume I'm using Sato :)

In the rule book order of attack operations indicate that defense tokens are spent before critical effects hence why overload pulse isn't completely OP

Yeah. Defense tokens are spent, then critical effects declared.

The confusing bit is that you suffer damage after critical effects, and that the default critical effect doesn't do anything until cards are dealt (if any).

It seemed you got it wrong. Crits are resolved always after defense tokens. ACM are resolved after the defender spend the redirect and chose a hull section to redirect. It just happens that it is also resolved before the damage is applied and therefore before it is actually redirected. Maybe that's the source of your confussion.

Yes, you can evade a die with a critical icon. This could cancel a critical effect before it takes place.
