Alphabet Squadron (new SW novel)

By dadocollin, in X-Wing

Star Wars Books has announced Alphabet Squadron , a new novel by Alexander Freed (release in June):

"On the verge of victory in what seemed an endless war, five former rebel pilots transform from hunted to hunters as they strike out against the vestiges of Empire. Set after Return of the Jedi, Alphabet Squadron follows a unique team, each flying a different class of starfighter as they strug gle to end their war once and for all."

I've read and not been a fan of a lot of the "new canon" Star Wars fiction. I read the Battlefront novel Freed did and thought it was OK, but I'm looking forward to the first new novel focused on fighter pilots and their ships.

And they’re calling it “Alphabet Squadron?” Really?

I guess anyone who doesn't qualify for Alphabet Squadron has to slum it in Yahoo Squadron.

They're getting hammered on Facebook for the title. Intense debate over whether the word "alphabet" exists in the SW universe.

I’m very excited for this. I enjoyed Twilight Company; it was some solid military SF.

I just hope FFG will keep adding pilots for the old ships even once they’ve finished with the rereleases. Maybe using the same mechanism they’re using for veteran players to update. It would be awesome to get an Alphabet Squadron expansion pack with new pilots and upgrades.

That’s... insane.

SW fans are literally insane.

Fingers crossed for the return of Lieutenant Ketch.

Just wait until they release the Imperial side of the story:

Greek Alphabet Squadron.

This is a universe where modern American colloquialisms are used. (Sitting ducks, mops, etc)

I don't have a problem with Alphabet Squadron. ****, I've wanted to fly XYAB for a while now. (never got around to it) Though I personally would rather put a Z-95 in instead of a U-Wing, if I were going for a 5 ship squad.

Eh. In the end, it's much ado about nothing. Fans gonna nitpick. Etc.

Alphabet because its BUXYA! I Get it! So funny!

To be honest I think its great that there are going to be more novels. Lets give Disney more money so they can take over the whole world and feed us exactly the entertainment we want!

This is really, really good.

Seems like an interesting concept.

Which is of course why Star Wars fans despise it, lol.

Star wars fans should be descriptive, not prescriptive, in their definitions of words.

So, what 12 points of upgrades do we put into the Bucks Ya! list?

That is the worst name for anything Star Wars related I have ever heard.

It is worse than the in universe joke names submitted for Wraith Squadron because at least Dinner Squadron was funny.

That's one of the first thoughts that crossed my mind.

Worse than Sheev or Snoke?

The title's pretty bad. It just doesn't sound good. It has the feeling of being a joke title, or a kid's book title.

Second one is actually worse. It's Elan Sleazebaggano.

I can never remember which it is. I’m just pleased I remembered the first name.

Yeah well i guess this makes perfect sense, Disney supporting the kids alphabetization is really a nice move.

Next year, playschool squadron will be the new hotness i suppose.

But what really catches me is that they won’t include the K-Wing and the E-Wing in their alphabet. I guess the legeds Kids are not allowed to play in their schoolyard anymore.
