I haven't done a wash yet but I thought I would show how it is so far.
My Victory Star Destroyer so far
For some reason the images won't show up here.
As for the shiny look that's because I put a semi-gloss clearcoat on the model to protect the paint. I wasn't sure about semi-gloss at first but I think it looks fine.

Any recommendations going forward, like what wash to use? I have nuln oil, agrax earthshade, and reikland fleshshade.

Love the idea of doing a Crimson Command style VSD. I like the look, but the wash will make all the difference in the end. I would suggest trying each wash out on the underside, first in little spots to see how each looks. I could see all those washes working really well.
+1 to trying things out on the bottom first.
-1 To testing washes on the model underside. Once you find one you like, you will have a splotchy, uneven finish.
Why not a scrap piece of textured plastic, painted with the same red you used on the model and testing on that? Thay way, when you find the one you like, it will be applied evenly on the model and it will look great.

I just primer up a handful of pennies, when I want to test washes, they are perfect.
I dont know about the rest of you, but it looks like you had a paint can of filled with red enamel paint and just dipped the SD inside it. xD

It was Mephiston Red with Tamiya Semi Gloss Clear added as a paint protector. It was the recommendation of a model store worker to use that instead of a flat clearcoat to represent starlight in space, and would look less toylike.
His beard was long and grey, and he had a British accent so I thought he had to be right. ?
Added a wash in the panel grooves and hanger, a 50/50 Fleshshade water mix.
The effect is very subtle but I think it was worth it. Need to do the top before a tournament Saturday.

I like the idea. I was thinking on painting my models with some kind of cinematic like but I am unsure how they would look like. That gloss touch is cool.
Finished the VSD, after adding the wash to the top I had to clearcoat it again because some 2 red panels required a touch up.
Really like that last picture where if you stand in front of the Victory half of the ship looks like it is in sunlight.
I think you need a heavier wash... in photos I don’t really see a difference between washed and unwashed.

For some reason the top was a bit lighter than the bottom despite being the same blend, I might revisit it later but I want to get some squadrons done first.
I also want to repaint the Assault Frigate Mk2 next, its biggest problem in my opinion is the unattractive factory paint scheme.
I still love that gloss touch.
Wondering if it exists for grey. I really like the traditional imperial scheme.

I think by wash, he means he had his army of storm troopers take buckets of soapy water and a sponge, and clean the entire surface of the ship.

Hi Piratical Moustache,
I would recommend you to use more contrast, which is more appealing to the eyes. Use a certain pattern, a symbol or something similar found on Thrawn's flagship. Another thought is how long ago the paint on the destroyer was applied? Those older Star Destroyers aren't brand new, so you could give the painting a worn look. A wash is the last step if you would ask me.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to see more!
