How would you fix the Airspeeder?

By Alino, in Star Wars: Legion

Probably just need some generic pilot upgrades.

If you do the in-for-a-penny strat, Wedge gives you all you need for at least one turn, Full Pivot means that you should be able to wibble your arcs wherever you need them to fire to actually have a shot with both. But theoretically you could make like, a Gunner upgrade that lets you fire out of arc (but maybe give the enemy a cover buff or something to compensate) or bump a range band or all kinds of things which would make the T-47 more worth the total point spend. Like, the AT-ST is crazy expensive, but people have come up with double AT-ST lists. you just need the right synergy.

ATM, I think the issue is that FFG was probably overly cautious, you don't need dedicated say, Anti-Air to take on an Airspeeder, anybody with generic Anti-Armor does it. Immunity to blast and melee is unique, but not properly effective, especially when it's a Speeder Vehicle you might have a **** of a time chasing it down anyway. Sure, being weak to impact on say, a missile launcher makes sense (SW has never really seemed to care about the difference between say, a MANPADS and an ATGM, and an RPG works just as well against helos as humvees) but also being vulnerable to even a little bit of impact on like the standard basically LMG unit hurts. The fact that the Empire starts with such good anti-armor and melee and blast are fairly limited means the Airspeeder basically starts in the environment that hurts it most, and will only later appear in the environment where it's more resilient, like if people want to make Palp n' Guard lists work, or whatever unique twists and turns Republic and Separatist armies bring. Or in like, a tourney setting it might have some time now, since say, it has the mobility to flank and hit pesky snipers in the enemy backline (who have no anti-armor at all) and might also bring the heat you need to hurt an AT-ST. It has really gotten a bad rap though since Legion's "year one" is basically all the stuff it doesn't like.

I'd fix it by running it correctly and not flying it haphazardly. It's a scalpel, not a hammer. It doesn't need an erata, it needs to be taught on how to fly it correctly. If you're going to change the point cost of the 47, then change the point cost of Vader and the walker. You also need to know this is a trooper based game and you are not bound to flying the T-47. If you feel it's useless, then stop using it and stop complaining about it.

The Airspeeder is much better on boards with terrain pieces of height between 1-2. I rarely see these pieces, if ever.

We had 6 boards in a tourney last weekend and I think maybe 2 out of about 50+ terrain pieces were height 1-2. Makes Speeder 2 (and grappling hooks) dead points.

Build taller terrain folks.

Are all tournies like that? That's pretty trashy in terms of terrain.

At home I use the legion expansion boxes as height 1 the core box as 2 and some ikea boxes as three. 3 means you need to get up onto the height 1 terrain right next to it

How i would fix the snowspeeder.

Remove model from stand.

Place neatly im storage containter.

Sit contaimer on the shelf and rememnis of the good old days.

I hope so much that Legion doesn't turn into the mess that was Xwing 1, just alter the dam point costs and don't release any dam fix cards that invalidate other cards!

Remove Arsenal 2, replace it with a new keyword, Gunner: This unit my fire one of its weapons as a free action.

Yes. I think this is themically a much better fix than expanding the fire arc or increasing the range and keeping Arsenal. It would encourage the idea of the pilot to making strafing runs while the tail gunner takes opportunity shots in passing. I would make it a free shot after moving, maybe once per turn and/or not on the compulsory move.

Double post... nm
