G-1A vs the M12-L Kimogila

By PhantomFO, in X-Wing

I never bought the Kimo under 1.0. The bullseye arc seemed like too much of a hassle to make when it arrived within the 1.0 meta, and none of the upgrades seemed that intriguing.

However, I'm finding it much more tempting in 2.0, especially when comparing it to the G-1A Starfighter. The two ships seem pretty directly comparable. Both have three attack dice, one agility, and nine health. The G-1A is marginally better healthwise, as it trades two hull for two shields.

For one point over the Gand Findsman, the stock Cartel Executioner comes in at IN3, with a talent slot, a red barrel roll action and the innate ability to exploit the bullseye arc. It can also pack missiles and torpedoes, with a Reload action to get the most out of them.

The G-1A gets a white Barrel Roll by spending two points on the title, which seems like a no brainer if you're going to use it. It also gets a sensor and crew slot, plus a Jam action. But the dial seems worse overall (no hard 3, red 3-banks and less blue, but with a red stop) and it only has an initiative of 1.

Anyone flown them yet in 2.0? Is the Kimo worth picking up now? Is there any point in running more than a single titled G-1A?

Generic G1-A is overpriced, it's very easy to outmanuver them.

4-LOM with Elusive and L337 crew can really make the G1-A sing, add hull upgrade for even more staying power.

The generic Kimogila is much better than the generic G1-A, I'm finding DALAN OBEROS's ability hard to trigger, but Torani Kuldos is ? especially paired with R5-P8.

I don't find Jam all that useful on the G1-A's and wish it also had coordinate even if it was a red action, or had linked red Jam. As it stands it's 4-LOM or not at all for me.

That jam action is so good! That tips the scales for me.

Looking at the Generics (most people are going to suggest a named pilot) with minimal upgrades it really comes down to what you want your heavy fighter to be doing. Be in close and hard, trying for the occasional bump or stripping tokens? Toss a FCS on a G-1A and get the Lock as you close. The 2k, slow blues, slow hards, and low init (for the Jam) help keep it there while you can close decently as well. You want the heavy to hit hard and keep moving then comeback around? Kimogila + Predator for the same price as a FCS G-1A. It has better and more higher speed maneuvers but lacks the close range K turn and full stop. Being able to dump stress with a 3 straight helps to offset the red Barrel Roll and 4K turn. If you want ordinance for longer range plinking and a close in haymaker, then Kimo. If you really have you're eye's set on slapping an Ion Cannon or Tractor Beam on your heavy, G-1A with title. So what are you looking to do with that heavy fighter you want?

On the topic of heavy fighters though, the Scurrg also fits. Lok with Dorsal Turret or a Shield Upgrade is 50, 46 completely bare. It has the same blues as the G-1A, adds in 3 red hards instead of the 1 red hards on the G-1A, swaps out the K-turns for Talon 3s which I've discovered are actually pretty nice on it, and has 1 more hit point than either the Kimo or the G-1A. The Device upgrades take it in a completely different direction than the other 2 if you want to use them but not fully into dedicated bomber territory (no reload or gunner slot so can't match the heavy bombers deployed by the other two factions) yet gives you some pretty interesting options (bull through a swarm then drop a proxy mine or protbomb in the middle of them being one).

Kimoglia is the ****

Well...ONE kimoglia is the ****

Get too many medium bases and they start just piling up like four separate Santa Con drivers converging on an intersection

Anyway, a humble Cartel Executioner with r5-p8 basically finds its way into all my lists

It's chunky, a modest 48 points, gets full mods (with occasional bullseye ability), and is actually VERY decently fast

also has honest-to-god THREE TURNS!!!!!

Really can't beat the r5 executioner when you're looking for just a solid, self-sufficient ship at VERY affordable cost

Should drive home the point about the medium base. It's pretty clunky if you got too many, but it also makes the Kim fast enough to serve as a great blocker when needed. And, if it has to chase, it won't be left in the dust like a Bwing would
