Hi all, so I looked into this this afternoon. I have 6 x-wings, which is more than the quite expensive upgrade pack supports. Same for Y-wings, Tie fighters etc.

I'm waaaay on the fence about spending so much upgrading the game anyway. It's a decent game, but for me that's as far as I'll go. It's okay.

So what are my options with getting to 2.0?

Oh and while I'm asking - is there any new concept of missions like in Armada?
X-wing really needed a more core idea of a reason for the fighting to happen IMHO, but I don't know if it got delevoped buch beyond the one pager you got in packs which were optional missions and not always very well done.

If you don't have many ships just get the 2.0 starter and start from there. No need for the expansion's

It's nice to see that the crazy combos are gone.

You don't have to convert every ship you own. So far I've bought one of each conversion kit, and there's VERY little in the way of lists that I can't make from the kits that I had models for, that I also want to fly.

I'd say download the squad builder, and put some lists together. See what you really need, and go from there?

A Core and a conversion kit for each faction that you want to play is a place to start and will give you a ton of options. If you really want to push into some of the more niche lists, a 2nd conversion kit will allow you to fly pretty much any possible list for your faction. Know that 2.0 right now is focused around 200 point lists (equivalent of 100 point lists in 1.0), so you can't fly more than 4 x-wings or 8 TIE fighters in a list right now anyway.

Missions are still not a major part of X-Wing mainstream play.

Make sure you research the conversion kit components on your own before you buy. They are not a secret, you can find the contents with a google search.

Yeah I saw the contents but it was disappointing to see my relatively small collection isn't accommodated by one kit, though useful to know that 200 = 100 in old money, so thanks.

1 conversion kit + 1 starter set = stuff for 4x T-65 xwings, which is the max that can be flown at this point in a 200 point dogfight. Ironically, the models are the one thing you DON'T actually need to play this game, and they're the only things that carry over from v1.0 to v2.0.

I've mentioned this before, but it's worth repeating: if you don't plan on playing competitively you can always just modify your turn dials - that's really the only thing that matters. I wrote directly onto my old ones before 2.0 came out and it all worked fine. The only other thing you may need is one or two medium bases, depending on how many you want to field (just buy a 2.0 medium base ship - the Reaper comes to mind). Otherwise, cards are really only required for tournament play and you can just play the game using the app (which is horrible, but try to get better) or one of the third party apps. I normally play using the app anyway, but I want to get into some tourneys so I made the big purchase, but it's really just personal preference.

Again - can't be stressed enough - you do not need to upgrade every ship you own. Also:

• Xwings: You get a 2.0 Dial in Saw's, a dial in the core, and 2 in the conversion kit - you're set to max there
• TIE Fighters: You get 2 in the core, 4 in the Imperial conversion kit, and 2 in the Rebel kit (with Rebel logos, but still valid)

Bullseye arcs are a thing. Nearly everything on the cardboard base token is different, including PS, attk/def, force, shield and hull values, bullseye arc, and actions.

edit: I'd say at least buy one conversion kit for whatever faction you want, see what that gets you, then plan from there. And what @LagJanson said above.

I may very well end up just flogging the lot and moving on. I don't play competitively and 100 quid to upgrade is money i'd rather not spend on a 'beer and pretzels' game.
We've a game tomorrow, of v1.0 and I'm really not looking forward to it.. I think at this point I'd rather be playing with our fighter jets rules.. or maybe, just about anything else instead.

Yeah, if you don't play competitive, and your play group isn't moving on to 2.0, there is absolutely zero reason to buy. Above all else, research what you're getting, why you're getting, and don't be that guy from the thread below...

there is always HOTAC for your group to try. No conversion needed as it is built around 1.0.

WOW! That HOTAC is some really, really great work.

I'd have much rather had FFG invest their time and design skills into that kind of thing than endlessly lobbing out ships (all of which I personally lost interest in after the stuff from I-III).
Now I see what somebody did seems a terrible waste of the star wars license. Thinking back to days of playing X-wing, and the mission was never 'go and kill stuff'

I have discovered a renewed interest in Magic the Gathering, myself.

Also, 1.0 FOREVER is a completely viable option. Chuck VI and Adapt, ban the ships you find broken, and play with all the rest.

As you said, it can also be a beer-and-pretzels game free of meta-spank if you just prune it back into a nice shape.

I have a very large collection. I bought one of ech conversion kit and one of each wave one (plus 1 saw and 2 reaper). I did all ththe dials last night and my hand still hurts. It took roughly 900 card sleeves including the promo damage deck.

And it's all still spread out on ththe table needing to be organized 8 to binders.

It will be worth it. But converting is a sizable time commitment just to organize.

Just do it!

This is a major reason I'm not going forward.

I bought into the game because of the Star Wars IP. FFG has not changed the game in any significant way to bring "Battle of. . ." narrative into the game. Heck, even Epic is on ice until whenever. And I got bored of 100 point tournament deathmatches long, long ago on a table far, far away. . .

Bullseye arcs are simply the width between the maneuver nubs. Place a speed 1 forward template down and you're good to go. None of the cardboard info matters except initiative, but you can use cards for that. Converting actually requires zero dollars.

That said, I made plenty of purchases because I wanted to. I'm simply giving the OP the option of spending nothing versus spending something. The other option is something in between, as you suggested, but it's by no means necessary.

This only gives you stuff for 3 x-wings. And I am chapped about it.

also some of the dials are the same (like Tie Fighters) so you can continue to use them. Just need cardboard and models.

That's incorrect, you will only get 3 T-65 maneuver dials from a core and a conversion kit.

This is what I'm talking about with doing your own research, there is so much bad information flying around the x-wing community right now, including the podcasts, social media and even FFG's own digital squad builder, I only trust the non-FFG squad builders, the second edition wikia, and FFG's rules documents as trustworthy sources.

Also it feels like a lot of the people in the forums don't read past the thread title anymore. Look at how many people are replying talking about random differences between 1.0 and 2.0 that doesn't have anything to with the original questions of conversion kits and missions.

Absolutely correct. I forgot that of the 4x T-65 dials I have, one was from Saw's Renegades. I keep forgetting that and the Reaper are technically also 2.0 releases too.

Bullseye is smaller than the nubs... bullseye is range ruler, there's way too much wiggle room between nubs for a range ruler to be trusted.
