B-wings

By Kiowa706, in X-Wing

Anyone else had great success with B-wings? I ran the two named pilots who can use stress to their advantage and just couldn't get hit, or miss a shot. I ran them with an Arc-170 who was there just to scare people. I'm actually liking them much more now than I did in 1.0.

At very least, the unique B-Wings had a sizeable price cut. 50 points for each, while their 1e versions had costs at 56 and 58. I feel like it still seems easy to overload them with upgrades. I tend to think Braylen Stramm with nothing but Crack Shot or HLC, and Advanced Sensors (so expensive... but Lock into a Red move looks so good), Predator or Crack Shot are tempting on Ten Nunb.

I ran them with some torpedoes and a canon the first time and found I never used them as they simply stayed stressed, or didn't seem like a viable option for any shots. I flew them against a Decimator and it just couldn't handle them without the canons or torpedoes. I've run the with no upgrades at all and they still were beasts. I'll try them with predator, perhaps even outmaneuver, since I did well dodging arcs with them. Might make them even more deadly than I've found they are now.

The generics are basically the same from 1.0. They are 1 point cheaper and have the slightly better dial, but that's about it. I might just try throwing a Ion Cannon on one in a list and seeing how it goes. I think they may be a better cannon or system option from being a decent ship.

I might try 4 of them with HLC and Shield Upgrade. That's a lot of beef and you aren't dodging that many bullseyes.

They are a fantastic rebel ship in 2.0. The 1 Talon Roll is the best move in the game and the B-Wings are lucky enough to have exclusive access to it. The named pilots are good and can make use of a few good upgrades like FCS, Collision Detector, Elusive (mathematically, a guaranteed evade on stressed Ten Numb), and Advanced Sensors. Don't overload them with upgrades and don't take torpedoes on them; just try to get into range 1. However, they get stressed just getting up off the couch and putting their pants on, so the lists where they are having the most success are ones where they can get rid of it easier; usually some combination of Cassian Andor and Leia Organa for maximum effectiveness. With these two cards, you can fly multiple Bs and just... keep talon rolling forever, which is a very effective way to fly them.

Braylen's ability is ridiculously good... problem is a stressed B is pretty garbage

Fortunately Cassian exists

Why not just put Tactical Officer on Cassian? Also how do you deal with how squishy Jan Ors is? Everytime I fly her, she died ridiculously fast, so I replaced her with Wedge.

???

Wedge is softer than Jan.

I'm really interested in flying 4 of them with Collision Detector and Hull Upgrade, just need to get my hands on 2 more dials.

How do you figure that?

Wedge: 4 hull, 2 shields, 2 agility

Jan: 3 hull, 2 shields, 2 agility

Jan + Moldy crow costs more than Wedge.

5 Health vs 6 Health. How is Wedge softer? Plus he can boost + focus at IV 6, which has saved his giblets in a few games so far.

Jan will have mods for all of her defense rolls most of the time. This makes her a lot more resilient on average.

I have time for Ten Numb with Squad Leader.

Braylen is like a baby Dash if you equip Trickshot and Collision Detector. I think Ten is great with Advanced Sensors. They are the best knife fighters, by far, that rebels have to offer.

Their dials got better too...that speed 1 segnor's loop is GREAT! And as you said, they certainly don't mind the stress.

Everyone's stressed so tact officer is worthless

Ap-5 is the only guy who can coordinate these chumps

Uwing is a very decent combat ship when loaded for bear. Perceptive might seem a tad luxurious, but it's really **** solid

May consider dropping it to get EU on Jan, though

Moldy crow survives on stacked focus, turret, and manueverability. Also the threat of 4/5 dice fully modified stramm in your face (atop her own full mods, use ap-5 to coordinate focus and have her TL)

I found the opposite. A stressed B-wing is where it gets all the dice modifications and re-rolls. Unless I'm missing something, having stress, and being able to use it to modify or re-roll dice seems like a really solid ship, far from garbage. The only complaint about it I have is target locks are difficult to acquire while stressed, so ordinance is difficult to use. I just don't equip them anymore on my B-wings.

AP-5 should be decent with Ten and especially Braylen. Gotta try that out soon.

The B-wing is the ship that got me excited for 2nd ed. By the time I got into X-wing 1st ed, B-wings were not all that interesting and didn't perform great, but I still tried to make it work because I love that weird ship so much. Can't help it, loved em since I was little watching the OG trilogy with my dad, because he had to get me caught up on Star Wars before Ep 1 hit theaters. hearing that 2nd ed was trying to make old ships viable immediately made me think "B-wings!" They seem to be in a solid spot right now. In some casual games with friends I've had some decent success with them, but each time I put on Torps they don't all get used. Cannons are nice, if you can fit them into the list, but not sure about taking more than 1 on them though, options are nice but it doesn't seem necessary on a 3 die primary ship like this. the talons rolls they gained make an excellent followup to hitting someone up close with an ion cannon in opening jousts as well, since you can stay close and keep laying down ion tokens.

Just wait until they rerelease Wired, the B-Wings will love that one.

The B-wing has a 3 straight green now, which means you can gain something from going 4 on turn 1 and 3 on turn 2. Add afterburners to be on your opponent faster than a mynock on a power cable.

Yeah I'm thinking the B-Wing will even get better in it's 2ed repack! For the new model, guessing it won't get S-Foils, but I could see a model that rotates between upright or sideways.

But in terms of gameplay for the repack:

- Some double cannon slot super cannon?

- A title?

- The return of E2 mod to get some crew?

- Not to mention more named pilots!

You know, there's some merit to this idea. The Imperials could get it with the Alpha Star Wing and it would give people reason to actually take the Xg-1 configuration. Even something as simple as the HLC utilizing the entire front arc would be pretty sweet for the right price.

I'm very, very new to X-Wing (2.0 made me get the bug hard and my wife has unsubtly hinted I'm getting the core set and rebel expansions for our anniversary next week) and I'm looking forward to piloting B-Wings more than anything else. They've been my favorite since I was a wee kid.

I really excited to put some b-wings on the table, at the same time I’m a little skeptical about their chances of survival. It seems like people are enjoying them though.

As for things I’d like to see in the B-wing expansion, I can happily live without the Rebels incarnation of the Blade-Wing. ??

Call me old fashioned but OG RotJ and Rebel Assault 2 B-Wings are my favorites.

I’d love to see a fancy gyro configuration.

Gyro-Stabalized Cockpit:

You can execute red manuevers even when stressed. After you execute a red maneuver, if you have three or more stress tokens, suffer one (damage).

Honestly the only crew I miss on B-Wings is Hera, particularly on the new Braylen. His ability wants him to be stressed, but then he can’t maneuver for crap. Gyros would give B-Wings a mini-Hera.

Ten Numb is a blast to fly! I used him with hlc, predator and fcs.. He was awesome hunting a decimator. And, as previously said, the 1 talon is amazing!
