Boring to play against? And is it effective?

By Minimono, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So 3 torpedo list has someone pointed out as being effective. Is this mini swarm even more effective then?

4X Proton Torpedo

It really depends on how well you fly. I’ve been trying to get a few variants of this working, and I have found it difficult to get the target lock setup; I2 moves so late, I’m pretty much always taking a focus.

Possibly swap 1 for a Bohdi Rook U-Wing to open up the locks a bit?

I’ve been wanting to experiment with the proton torps... I keep reading about Y-Wings with torps being really strong but haven’t gotten a chance to fly it yet.

Target locks are an issue so things like Dutch and Bohdi sound interesting... Maybe R3 astromechs as well?

Why would you think the list is boring to play against?

Just curious, because normaly when people complain about boring lists, it's that the list robs the opponent of meaningful choices. In first edition we had ion/stress control, unavoidable turrets, unavoidable bombs, Biggs, etc.

This list doesn't have any of that and should be a fun exersise in creating kill boxes, taking locks at low initiative and disengaging and reengaging with damaged ships.

Y-Wings are quite effective, and bring a number of benefits as an ordnance carrier... not least of which is the ability to reload.

Their lower cost means that you can also take advantage of some handy pilot abilities!

For example;

BTL-A4 Y-wing - Gold Squadron Veteran - 47
Gold Squadron Veteran - (34)
Expert Handling (2)
Proton Torpedoes (9)
R4 Astromech (2)

BTL-A4 Y-wing - Gold Squadron Veteran - 47
Gold Squadron Veteran - (34)
Expert Handling (2)
Proton Torpedoes (9)
R4 Astromech (2)

BTL-A4 Y-wing - •“Dutch” Vander - 55
•“Dutch” Vander - Gold Leader (42)
Expert Handling (2)
Proton Torpedoes (9)
R4 Astromech (2)

BTL-A4 Y-wing - •Evaan Verlaine - 49
•Evaan Verlaine - Gold Three (36)
Expert Handling (2)
Proton Torpedoes (9)
R4 Astromech (2)

Total: 198/200

Dutch passes target lock to Evaan to allow her to take a focus, either for her ability or to give double mods on her Torpedo shot...
