Dengar, 4-LOM and support

By darkflop, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I've been experimenting with Dengar and 4-LOM, I think they're quite fun to play (and I like the challenge of flying the JumpMaster 2.0 - no more ridiculous endless S-looping). I tried them on the table along a HWK, but it didn't feel quite right. Theorycrafting further, I came up with the following list. I have yet to try it on the table, so I don't know how well they would interact in real life, but on paper it seems sensible (I also don't own a Scum Falcon yet, so knowing whether the Escape Craft makes a big difference will influence my next purchase decision):

JumpMaster 5000 - •Dengar - 81
•Dengar - Vengeful Corellian (64)
Expert Handling (6)
•Punishing One (8)
•R3 Astromech (3)

G1-A Starfighter - •4-LOM - 62
•4-LOM - Reprogrammed Protocol Droid (49)
Advanced Sensors (8)
•0-0-0 (3)
•Mist Hunter (2)

Escape Craft - •L3-37 - 24
•L3-37 - Droid Revolutionary (22)
Tactical Officer (2)

Quadrijet Transfer Spacetug - Jakku Gunrunner - 31
Jakku Gunrunner (28)
Seismic Charges (3)

Total: 198

The core is Dengar and 4-LOM, for no other reason than I like them ?

Expert Handling and Title seem quite obligatory on Dengar. Less sure about the droid. R5-P9 could also be a good choice, albeit reducing the bid to 1pt (although at this value it probably makes no difference - I assume most I6 builds would have bigger bids anyway).

4-LOM is pretty standard from what I've seen and read so far. I could scrap a upgrade somewhere else to slap Elusive on him, but I'm not sure it would be worth it overall.

L3-37 is there to provide the insanely valuable (I assume) Coordinate action for a very decent price tag. Could go even cheaper with the Drone, but with such a short lifespan it would probably not work, especially if going for a slow approach! Tactical Officer keeps it mobile to keep up with Dengar.

Spacetug is there to be an annoyance with his Tractor, and also to clear up the field with the Seismics for Dengar to move/barrel more freely (that's the theory in my head anyway).

Now I need to figure out how to fly this happy bunch in a way that makes it work ?

What do you think?

R5-P8 is just TOO good with Dengar. Other than that this looks like a hoot.

As to how to fly it? Id really k. I'd be inclined to joust with it. But I like jousting all the time lol.

Why? I don't understand why people keep putting this astromech in?

Saving focus to defense, and get to reroll dice...Action economy! I Mean , Lone wolf plus R5P8 on Dengar is just so good.

Keeping r5p9 active for revenge shots, prevents people taking pot shots at dengar when he has no mods, or when he sloops.

You may want to check out squad leader palob. He carries two focus into combat and then can start giving dengar actions. L337 on palob is golden. Saved me more than 2 hull every time I use it (when you opponent gets those lucky 3 hit + crit natty rolls and has no focus token-cuz palob.

I have been looking at creating a list to use my Dengar, this looks fun! Thanks

Huh! I didn’t consider that... ? My initial build was a plain Palob with title.

With L337 I’m at 202pts though, so I’d need to remove an upgrade on another ship. What would you remove? 0-0-0?

That said, if I limit myself to what I own, I can put a Tactical Officer instead to make that coordinate white and be at 200pts (with R5-P9 on Dengar, 199 if I keep R3).
