Drea's Bounty

By eljms, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I was thinking how Drea Renthal might best be used. Her pilot ability reads:

'While a friendly non-limited ship performs an attack, if the defender is in your firing arc, the attacker may reroll 1 attack die.'

It feels like she was designed to support swarms but I've been playing with how to have her give re-rolls to slightly harder hitting ships. She needs a turret to make that re-roll arc as big as possible. R5 and debris gambit are there to help with survivability. She fits in nicely alongside two generic Bounty Hunter firesprays with a couple of tricks up their sleeves like this:

BTL-A4 Y-wing - •Drea Renthal - 51
•Drea Renthal - Pirate Lord (40)
Debris Gambit (2)
Dorsal Turret (4)
R5 Astromech (5)

Firespray-class Patrol Craft - Bounty Hunter - 74
Bounty Hunter - (66)
•0-0-0 (3)
Proton Bombs (5)

Firespray-class Patrol Craft - Bounty Hunter - 75
Bounty Hunter - (66)
Marauder (3)
•Dengar (6)

Total: 200/200

I don't have Lando's Falcon, otherwise Scum Gunner Han would have been a cheaper option instead of Dengar. I'm also not sold on Debris Gambit. Those changes combined would allow me to put seismic charges on the second bounty hunter. However, flying it as it is makes it a tough squad, capable of inflicting and absorbing damage in equal measure.

Anybody used Drea to good effect before?

How does she work out supporting a swarm? (maybe Quadjumpers!)

Any thoughts on how to do it with 3-dice primary ships (Viper / Kihraxz)?

Maybe something like this:

StarViper-class Attack Platform - Black Sun Enforcer - 46
Black Sun Enforcer - (46)

StarViper-class Attack Platform - Black Sun Enforcer - 46
Black Sun Enforcer - (46)

Quadrijet Transfer Spacetug - Jakku Gunrunner - 28
Jakku Gunrunner - (28)

Quadrijet Transfer Spacetug - Jakku Gunrunner - 28
Jakku Gunrunner - (28)

BTL-A4 Y-wing - •Drea Renthal - 51
•Drea Renthal - Pirate Lord (40)
Debris Gambit (2)
Dorsal Turret (4)
R5 Astromech (5)

I like the ideas, but I think the more ships the better. It of the three dice ships I think the viper is a good choice since it can dance and its still cheap

If you drop some upgrades from drea you can replace the vipers with 2 z-95 each

You can squeeze three Khiraxz and an Ion Scyk in lost with her. Should be quite punchy, and lots of health too.

@Zorprime - how have you been finding getting the HLC shots? I'd be worried about getting people into the bulls eye.

@Greebwahn - That's pretty neat. Do you set up the goons with their turret arc pointing forward and then joust, with maybe Drea having her turret arc to one side and breaking formation to make sure she gets everything in arc?

I like Dengar because it punishes the opponent from attacking your lynchpin, and because arcdodgers might be a royal pain in the ***. Drea's a Y trying to maximize her arc coverage, so she won't ever be killing much but she's not helpless late game

Khirax are just **** solid

Always run a Quad. If you value entertainment, ALWAYS RUN A QUAD

I have found it pretty good, I only have a few games with it but managed to line up a lot of them. I did 7 damage to a Leebo in opening round of combat almost lost my Drea that same round. Some lists will smoke drea pretty quick but the predator helps keep the HLC's performing, it also helps with range 1. There's enough ships to use one as a blocker too. It does need some more table time but, I really enjoy putting Guri on the table as well!!

Predator is Primary weapons only. If you're using it for re-rolls with HLCs you're doing it wrong.

Now you can do it correctly. :) We're all relearning the game to one extent or another so no worries. :)
