Ammo for an Autocannon?

By Vasuvius, in Dark Heresy

Looking through the Inquisitor's Handbook, I can't seem to find the price for autocannon shells, does using the price for exotic ammo seem reasonable (20 thrones for one)?

The price is not listed. I looked every-friggin-where for it.

The exotic ammo price would be a fine base line or maybe the bolter shell price. As an aside, they also don't list the prices for Heavy Plasma, Melta or Flamer ammo. sad.gif

Well DH has an overall problem with ammo prices. Exotic only goes so far and then you need to houserule it.

I can't belive an autocannon would use ammo even remotely close to the cost of bolter shells. It's a heavy machinegun, not a holy relic spewing holy relics. I kinda assumed it used a variation of standard bullets. Maybe a little more expensive than that, but not by much.

The bolt's themselves aren't holy relics, at least non astartes ones aren't, if you've seen an IG army and the rate they must get through Heavy Bolter ammo. And it might only be a bullet but it's a hundred times the size of a normal bullet so it should be sh!t load more than a normal bullet. Although that could easily be a lot less than a bolt shell.

FYI a hundred times the cost of bullet is 5 geld. Sounds about right to me.

5 gelt per round sounds about right. Of course, you've got to wonder just where in the galaxy you could even buy autocannon ammunition.

According to Lexicanum, the autocannon fires explosive ammunition so it would be a lot more expensive than bullets and slightly less so than bolt shells, which are high-tech stuff.

Think of the Autocannon in 40K/DH not as a "big rifle" but more like the 20mm Autocannon mounted on the Bradley IFV modern-day.

Anywhere from 5-15tg per shell should cover it. Now where to get it is the bigger issue.... Hope you have some good friends in the Departmento Munitorum or are serving alongside an Imperial Guard unit.

If for no other reason than not having to worry about ammo prices, Ascention will be welcomed. Just worry about how many shots you have left and get to purging the unclean!

I agree. Autocannons are the primary main weapon on Predator tanks and Chaos dreadnoughts as well as man-portable versions seen in the Imperial Guard, Chaos Terminators (Reaper) and in Necromunda (where they are twin-barreled like the Chaos Reaper Autocannon).

I would think of them as an anti-material rounds roughly 20-25 mm caliber, like the modern M242 Bushmaster.

We do it somewhere around 100 a reload, 5 a shell. Actually, our two IG are usually just given 3 crates(each crate is a clip) and told that unless they on some bizarre chance find some, that's it for the mission. If its not expected to be combat oriented, they may only get one.
