What's Your Favorite Unit?

By Alino, in Star Wars: Legion

Hello all! Alino here, and I'm simply writing this because I'm genuinely curious as to what each person here has to say.

So, my question is this - What is your favorite unit, and why is it your favorite? I haven't been able to find any recent topics on this, so decided to make one of my own.

-----------------------------------------------------------

My personal favorite unit is the Rebel Commando Strike Team , specifically when paired with the DH-447 Sniper. My reasons for this being my favorite unit are listed below.

1 - A Big reason I prefer this unit over say, the Scout Trooper Strike Team with DLT-19x Sniper is because that, while the DLT-19x is a better weapon than the DH-447, the Rebel Commandos have the advantage of having Offensive Surges, which more than makes up for having a weaker weapon.

2 - I'm a Rebel main, and we don't have much in the way of long-ranged firepower. This unit fills that role perfectly for me.

3 - My small group I run ( may sound a bit rude saying I run the group, but I supply the gaming space, terrain, and models. People here can't be bothered to buy anything -_- ) is fond of densely populated boards, which allows for me to position my Strike Team in a good area with great ease, especially since the Scout 2 rule allows them to effectively have a much larger deployment zone than most, if not all other units on the board.

4 - The infinite range on the model allows for me to make shots my opponents don't see coming quite frequently. This is mostly due to the fact that, while my opponent is distracted by a threat nearby, they may forget about the Strike Teams I have placed about on the board, allowing me a clear shot on the unit upon my activation. The Sharpshooter 1 rule is also incredibly helpful for getting off clear shots. ( while on the topic of Sharpshooter 1 on the Strike Teams - Why in the world does Leia have Sharpshooter 2? Surely the seasoned veterans of the Rebellion, and the fine scouts of the Empire, would have a much more accurate shot than a princess from Alderaan.)

Anyways, those are some ( I believe all ) of the reasons that the Rebel Commando Strike Team is my favorite unit. I'd love to hear what yours are below, people of the Forums :D

Because of all that fox hunting with the fancy rich people of Alderaan.

My favorite unit is probably Snow Troopers and Rebel Troopers. The one because it's the only Hoth squad in the game right now. The other because I can make them into pretty much any kind of trooper for the Galactic Civil War. They are highly versatile models.

My two choices are:

Snowtroopers because they are suppression resistant and because they’re pure evil at range 1 with the flamer.

Darth Vader, because while he may be hard to get in position, he will wreck an entire area of the board while he’s there. Really enjoy if I can get master of evil to proc and he hands out all the suppression.

The YA novel, Leia, Princess of Alderaan will answer some of that. :)

My favorite unit thus far is the Fleet Troopers. I only have one set and while I could rationalize getting a second, I kind of like only having one as they kind of feel like a special addition to the army whenever I run them - not like a core building block that the Rebel Trooper corp units feel.

Vader is quite good, he's my 2nd favorite commander. (My favorite being Han)

I've got 2 sets of Fleet Troopers, run them in most my lists. I love their Scatter Gun, it's super effective for me.

Speeder Bikes! Zoom zoom zoom ...

Snowspeeder for the lulz.

Speeder bikes... Or the AT-ST.

Speeder bikes are a fun one. I've not ran them personally, but I've seen some interesting moves by other players

Vader. I love the way he can smash anything in melee (I.e killing Han in one hit like a true Sith Lord) but I also like the speed restriction as it makes him feel balanced and requires finesse to use.

Yeah, Vader's great. I personally like running him with Force Push and Saber Throw, but what upgrades do you put on your vader?

I run the classic set up of throw, push and reflexes for those times he is being focused down.

Saber throw obviously. It’s illegal to not use that. Also force reflexes for the deflect every round. I wouldn’t add more than one exhaust card on him since his refresh action is only good for cards. On luke and everyone else it allows removal of supression giving it more use.

I find push is very useful to control the field around you (and potentially pull someone in to melee range if needed). Push is used once or twice so you don’t need to refresh it that much unlike reflexes.

I agree it’s an offence not to staple saber throw onto Vader.

The Speeder because everything on the Rebel side is so slow.

Plus, if I win while using one I've definitely done a decent job given the number of anti-armour weapons I seem to be facing.

I like to fly around and die randomly.

I like to randomly shout "Whoa! That got him!" during games.

That's fair. Do you run 1 speeder or 2 in your lists?

Vader by far is my favorite unit. Hate this rare times you roll his attack to obtain 2 hits. This enrage me a lot after all the effort that needed to bring him to a key position. And hate luke hahaha

Just the one. Otherwise how would I fit even more vulnerable AT-RTs in?

Agree with both of these statements, the book goes a long way of explaining just how capable she was and how she had the attributes of a leader. This books along with From a certain point of view (which has Yoda talking to force ghost Obiwan trying to convince Yoda into training Luke instead of Leia, because.Yoda's money was on Leia being the chosen one.)

Stormtrooper, scout troopers, ATST, Rebel Commandos, Speeder Bikes, Luke, Boba and Vader.

they are all just so star warsy.

Speeder Bike

Scout Strike Teams

Scout's

basically anything with a scout trooper :)

I have played about 5 games so far and from that I would say.

+++ General Veers

--- Darth Vader and AT-ST

Would really like some tips for playing Vader and AT-ST

Vader is my personal favorite unit (On the Empire's side, that is)

He's got a few great bonuses.

1 - His command cards are great
2 - His command range is basically an anti-suppression bubble.
3 - He's a beast in melee.
4 - He's really good at locking down an area. Most opponents will go out of their way to go around vader if need be, because if you get too close to him, or get within his command range (for his 3 pip command card to take effect, if he uses it), the blow can be devastating.

A few negatives though
1 - He's... really slow. Like, really slow.
2 - A ton of points. With ideal upgrades, he'll run around 220 - 230 points., that's over 1/4th of your army.
3 - Due to his slowness, and the vast amount of points he requires, your opponents will usually just avoid him. Try to solve this by bringing Boba, who they'll probably want to avoid almost as much as Vader, and snipers, who they'll also want to avoid quite a bit.

A few tips.
1 - IMO, vader pairs EXTREMELY WELL with Boba Fett and the 2-man Scout Sniper Teams.
2 - When upgrading Vader, bring him with Saber Throw. It's a must. Also, bring either Force Push or Force Reflexes. It's up to you. I prefer Force Push, but the majority of people prefer Force Reflexes. You can get great use out of whichever you pick since Vader readies 1 force each turn. I also highly advice running Anger - the new Force Upgrade that comes out when Sidious does - when it releases.
3 - Remember, just because Vader's hella tough, and is a beat stick, he's not indestructible. Try to block line of sight while you're going to the enemy. Your first 2 turns will most likely be spent on double moves, which is fine. What's great is that you can attack after moving, so say you double move on turn 2 and are within range 1-2 of an enemy, and you have saber throw. Chuck that at them, and you're swinging 3 red attack dice that all Pierce.
4 - Don't ever run Vader with AT-STs. I also don't recommend him with Veers, I don't think they play well together.
5 - On the other hand, the typical Snowtrooper build, in my experience, works wonders with Vader. They move at the same speed afterall. (The typical build being 5 Snowtroopers + 1 Flametrooper + Impact Grenades. Usually 2 squads)
