The Mandalorian [Star Wars TV series]

By Mr Tough Guy, in X-Wing

First details for Jon Favreau's Live action Star Wars tv series:

Quote

After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.

*yawn

I’m surprised.

There is no way they can possibly satisfy the rabid mandalorian fanboys out there.

Good time frame, interesting scummy premise, why did it have to be a Mandalorian, though? They are so awesome and lame at the same time, I'd rather not touch them.

Raaaah, I hope it would be awesome, but I am nor very confident.

Well, at least we know it will be set up in the outer "reach of the galaxy" ( = outer rim? Probably). So it may look like Firefly more than 1313.

I hope it will not be cheap and the scenario will worth it! I would be soooo pleased.

Same here.

I'd like to see more Fang Fighters, if possible :X

Who wants to put money down on whether or not Boba Fett shows up at some point?

Oof, I don't know, they already had to go with Mauls stupid (if paying off nicely) ressurection since that is in TCW, no reason to loot the EU for another of those.

Would prefer The Antilles, but whatever.

So I guess it will be the adventures of Sabine Wren in her search for Ezra Bridger and Thrawn?

I wouldn't mind if the protagonist is a mandalorian as long as it doesn't involve the mandalorians as a society yet again. Those were the yawnest, lamest episodes both in Clone Wars and Rebels.

Would be kind of funny if that were the case, but she is only revealed at the very end and remains anonymous through the whole series :D Kinda doubt Sabine will ma´ke more than a cameo, though, I don't see Filoni putting that character (or Ahsoka, for that matter) into anyone elses hands, and the series probably will have a more serious tone to it.

This is so true. They’re gonna hate it. I’ll like it probably, but they’ll hate it.

Actually, ať this timeline, we could see more grown-up Sabine with much more serious tone. When she works alone, she might have become more ruthless yet still Sabine for the adult audience.

Honestly, out of all the possible approaches they could have gone with, this one probably interests me the least. But, we'll reserve judgment until we see how things go. I just hope "serious" means, "more like the films than like the cartoons" and not "dark and edgy".

Don't know how accurate the reports are but they're saying that they're looking at Pedro Pascal for the lead, so I imagine this will not be primarily about Sabine but a new male Mandalorian

FireflyWars!

I have nothing else to add. I just wanted to shout FireflyWars!

Yup, that would be my guess. Which, honestly, as I think about it, I wouldn’t mind that. I think I’d even prefer it to introducing another new Mandalorian character.

It's Jon Favreau doing a series about a guy who fights head to toe in a sci-fi armour suit. Where have I heard that before?

It's Iron Man in the Star Wars setting. How does that not sound awesome?

My wife's comment on this thread is that most of you all "refuse to be delighted."

I would tend to agree.

I’m all for this. Can’t wait to get a real look at this series!

It's also every single Stormtrooper. So Iron Man is a Stormtrooper?

The main difference for me is that Iron Man is a hero. I want to root for him and see him win. Maybe that's the direction they'll take it, but I'm worried they'll instead go with some boring, morally-ambiguous antihero. "He does all the cool actiony stuff of a hero, but without that pesky moral fiber getting in the way!"

I feel about this much the same as I do about Solo. It sounds entertaining, but it's not the kind of epic, good-vs-evil story that I can really get excited about.

I'd like to see a Sabine story, but maybe as a side character or part of a bigger storyline. I think that's feasible and would pay off in a similar way as Ahsoka in Rebels. I'm excited about a Mandalorian character - they can take the story in SO many directions, from bounty hunting to Mandalorian politics to all out war, all with badass armor and pew pew noises. And maybe a Gauntlet fighter for good measure. I hope they include some existing ships and don't try to go ALL NEW ALL ORIGINAL SHIPS CUZ NEW IS BETTER! A little nod to what makes Mandalorians awesome, besides cool armor, would be nice.

Overall, I trust Favreau to do well with this.

I honestly don't get the obsession with Mandalorians. I always thought Boba was an overrated character. People like his armor so now we get tons of stories about Mandalore/Mandalorians. Yawn.

That said, I'll watch it anyway- because Star Wars. I hope it does involve the search for Bridger and Thrawn because that, to me, would be more interesting than yet another new Mandalorian character.

But don't you remember all his amazing accomplishments? Like how he sat around doing nothing long enough to notice the Millennium Falcon fly away? (If Dengar had just spent a little longer Bluetooth syncing his phone, or if Zuckuss had spilled his Big Gulp and needed to take time cleaning it up, I suppose one of them would have been the "awesome one" of the bounty hunters.) Or how about in the Holiday Special cartoon, when he implemented a plan so convoluted that even he didn't understand it? Then, of course, there's that part in A New Hope Special Edition where he actually turns to the camera for a moment! <swoon> And who can forget how cool he looked getting knocked into a hole by a blind guy completely on accident? Sounds like someone just doesn't like totally awesome characters!
