The title and plot of Jon Favreau's live action series have been officially announced.
The Mandalorian (Eventual spoilers will apply)
LFL's odd promotional sense continues, though. Favreau makes the announcement on a Wednesday...but too late in the day to include on The Star Wars Show, their online promotional show, where the news will be a week old by the time they can report it.
I temper my sense of disappointment in anticipation.

I wouldn't say we were told a plot.
Here's hoping this lone Madalorian's "travails" are interesting to watch, and it doesn't cause viewing to be a "travail"......
In all honesty, I wouldn't be surprised if this turned out a little bit like firefly.
A pair of Mandolroains/ex soldiers as Badass Captain and first mate? Check.
A variety of interesting faces motivated by money and glory (But mostly money)? Check
Wild West Vibes? Check. I mean, literally those guys are rough as rough comes.
Starts of as a series of rough jobs that likely would have progressed to a civil war storyline had the series continued for long enough? Check.
A force emergent who is treated as the crazy person that will eventually emerge to be a badass?
Send me the cheque when your done. XD

According to this article , Dave Filoni is directing the first episode, not Favreau.

Each episode has a $10 million budget, so they've got the cash to make it look good.

Sounds like Favreau is a true fan, and with Filoni heavily involved maybe we will get a bit of relief from the more negative factions in the fandom.
After Solo, the return of Clone Wars, and now The Madalorian, it seems clear that Lucasfilm can still provide a certain kind of familiar Star Wars content, even as they experiment with the franchise (Resistance) or move in new directions (TLJ).
I'm down for the journey.

Favreau voiced one of the Mandalorians in Clone Wars, so he's already got a connection to the topic.
What do you think is experimental about Resistance? "Young fighter pilots" seem pretty in line with the world established by A New Hope.
I wonder if he is going to follow the old Western tradition of the wandering gunslinger, handing out justice, protecting the innocent. Just the title reminds me of some of the really old Westerns, like the Virginian, and the Rifleman.
That promo shot will make for some nice digital wallpaper.

If by "topic" you mean Star Wars, it should be mentioned that he voiced Rio in Solo as well.

The only Star Wars alumni return that could get me more psyched than Filoni would be Irwin Kershner, and not only because he passed away nearly a decade ago. I'm very curious to see what Taika Waititi does with/to Star Wars given his previous work. I'm not familiar with any of BDH's work behind the camera but as an actress she's proved that she can squeeze quite a lot out of a bad role ( The Village, Jurassic World ) and turn a good one in to pure, undiluted, enriched acting gold ( Black Mirror ). Not sure how well that translates into directing skills, but consider my interest piqued.

EDIT: Also, some wishlisting:
1. It would be cool to see Katee Sackhoff reprising her role as Bo-Katan in live action.
2. All Mandalorians having thick, Korg -like, NZ-accents (or maybe just a single mysterious helmeted one that only speaks a line until like three episodes into sheer voiceless badassery).
3. Solid ensamble cast, or failing that, a female lead. Because some dead horses still need a beating.

I’m not familiar with any directing work of hers, either. But, she’s got a pretty decent mentor in that regard. So I’m interested to see what she brings.
Like you, I wouldn’t mind seeing Katee Sackhoff bring her character to live action, either.

I thought the same thing, to the point it took actual effort to not mention it, but I figured she's earned enough cred on her own by now for it not to matter who her father is.
Still, I can think of worse people to have on speed dial if you need to throw around some ideas on directing.

I only think it matters in that she’s got a pretty good source of education in directing. I don’t expect her to be a carbon copy of Ron, but as you say, there are far worse people to learn from. ?

I was wondering the same thing. I know that Katie Lucas has done some writing for Star Wars, and Solo gave us a two-generation writing team in the Kasdans (with one of those generations having worked on Star Wars on his own), but I think this is indeed the first second-generation director in the franchise.

I'm curious as to what they will do here because as time goes on the Mandalorians become less and less villain material and more just a warrior culture with cool looking armor that can be used to pull protagonists from.
