Fenn Rau at Range 0

Do either of Fenn Rau's abilities work at Range 0?

I assumed so at first, but then I noticed some other abilities actually specify Range 0-1. Fenn's abilities say "the attack is range 1" not even something like "within range 1".

Sorry if this has been asked before. Fenn Rau is such a popular topic that even narrowing my search hasn't been working.

Nope.

Range 0 is not range 1. (its pretty rare for him to be able to attack or defend from a range 0 ship but its possible)

The reason I asked is because I was trying out Arvel the other day and caught Fenn in a really crazy shot (Jan was also watching), but I'm pretty sure we gave Fenn all of the defenses. It still hit hard, but it was the only time I managed to land anything on Fenn. When I realized the Jam action wouldn't do anything to Fenn's abilities, I started to get a bit concerned that I was ending up in the sort of guaranteed defense territory from First Edition.

This makes me feel a lot better, because now I'm seeing that Fenn merely has a very specific strength (that I could have worked around) rather than no weaknesses.

Nope, both his and the ship ability only specify R1, so if you can get a R0 attack you ignore it.

Which is uber rare, think theres 4 sources of that in the game (Arvel, Oicunn, Rhymer, and Zebcrew)

I was looking up the rules and was about to say YES, you do get the effect, BUT there is a reference in the Range Bonus section that says... " For attack range 0–1 " meaning that attacks can be Range 0 or Range 1. (IE, they are not one and the same anymore). So I would say NO, you do not get to use his effect.

If you are able to exploit one of the range 0 attack abilities then yes it would negate Fenn's ability.

The ideal way to deal with Fenn though is at range 2. No special extras required and then he's just a 3 agi with 4 health. Making him SLIGHTLY tankier than a standard TIE fighter, and we all know how sturdy those tend to be.

Even Range 3 isn't terrible these days. Sure he gets that one extra die but still only a focus to spend and no autothrusters is a big deal.
