Beyond the Wall Thought Exercise

By Y Mab Darogan, in Genesys

So although I’m not a fan of the underlying system I really dig the character and community generation of Beyond the Wall. Since work is inherently boring I’ve been pondering the game and got to wondering how would people adapt it to; Genesys

Could you generate stats and the various accoutrements of a Beyond the wall character with the above? Particularly Genesys which doesn’t incorporate random character builds.

Dont really know Beyond the wall or even Mythras but you can do anything you like in genesys :) so generate the character in Beyond the wall then take out a character sheet in genesys and stat it out.

I tried to google it a bit and if what i read was correct you during creation make a young kid and then through rolls get some small narrative that effects his stats. But in the end you end up with a 6 stat array from standard d20 system so your str, dex, con, int, wis, cha ?

There is nothing wrong with using this system to generate a sorta random background then take your end product and you just sort of have to calculate backwards or translate d20 stats into genesys. Brawn is basicly a mashup of str and con, agility is dex, int is well int, cunning gets a bit tricky but i would say mashup of int, dex like quick thinking/reaction time, willpower could be wisdom and presence your charisma.

I cant say the exact conversion of d20 stats to genesys since honestly most stat would fall in the 2-3 category. You dont have to use the genesys creation system you can use anything as long as you end up with a archetype, 6 stats a career with 8 skills 4 that you have 1 rank in from start and whatever you want to do with your remaining xp if you have any.

So my advice would be dont convert it. Just use beyond the wall to generate the backstory then flesh it out in genesys.
