Giving Scout Troopers proper weapons (Modeling questions)?

By Squark, in Star Wars: Legion

So, while I'm eager to try out the Scout Troopers, I have to say I'm not crazy about their choice of weapon. I mean, those pistols are tiny. What sort of military sends elite soldiers into battle with only a holdout? Does anyone have any ideas on how to give Scout Troopers a more practical weapon like a carbine or perhaps a shotgun?

I think the game treats their pistol more like a submachine gun.

You could give them, I don't know, a sniper rifle.......

It’s on brand, they need to scout and holdout for better weapons.

Yah the game treats their pistols kinda more like an Uzi or compact MP-5 kinda shooty gun thingy...

To be fair, Star Wars kinda treats all their pistols that way... <.<

They are scout troopers, not combat troopers. Their mission would be to determine where the enemy is and report, and leave the close in engagement to the better armed and armoured stormtroopers. And as others have pointed out, the multiple dice is indicative of a higher rate of effective fire than an E-11, at the cost of shorter maximum range.

Pistols in Star Wars are generally more "punchy" than pistols on earth, so having a pistol as a primary weapon makes more sense.

And pistols are what they used in the movie. Just sayin'.

Well, the difference between an SMG and a pistol is usually a bit of barrel length or added stocks, magazine capacity and selective fire - unless you get into modern PDWs, SMGs all use pistol calibers and the proto-SMG is a horrible frankensteined pistol with an extended barrel, prominent sight using a clip-on stock and drum mag.

Actually showing blasters blazing away at full auto isn't super common in SW, and a lot of time it's reserved for big weapons (like the upcoming E-WEB unit, or DLTs), but pistols of various sizes have always been treated as fairly effective in their more limited range. What we have here is light special forces probably using a very expensive but fine tuned weapon, it's accurate, reliable and damaging, but definitely doesn't have the reach of a full rifle-sized weapon. The EC-17 is probably akin to projects like the H&K Mk 23 which is a match-grade, very hardy weapon developed specifically for a contract for US special forces.

You want to give them better weapons? Take the speeder bikes.

I mean, I'd call them lucky to have the holdouts with its 2 black dice opposed to the single white die that the E-11 has. Obviously the Empire needs to have whoever makes their holdouts construct actually rifles.

It's becoming pretty clear that the dice pool represents training more than hardware.

I think their abilities and surges represent that more, considering the Stormtroopers have Precise 1 to reflect what Obi-Wan said, their weapons are just horribly inaccurate. I think it might more come down to the fact that FFG is trying to keep the weapons to their same dice pools when they are reused hence why Leia and Veers have their name before the E-11 on their weapon name.

I think my intent was slightly misunderstood; I was asking for conversion ideas, not trying to change the unit's stats or resculpt the whole model. That being said, the pistols are a bit heftier in person or when painted compared to the unpainted image in the preview article, so I think I'm satisfied with the blasters just being SMGs.

there are some 3d printed weapons I've seen on shapeways that have different laser blasters.

I believe Skullforge has a set of five E-11's for 8$ on Shapeways.

The reason the Stormtroopers fire a single white is because of the E-11 being a mass produced garbage blaster. Same with the TIE Fighter. The Empire needs a huge amount these and thus they buy the cheapest thing they can. The blaster the Scouts use is an upgrade compared to the E-11 because the Empire doesn't need to mass produce them.

Yes you could do a sculpting upgrade to the Scouts, but that might feel weird. If you give them a rifle, why on earth is it only range 2? Shotgun doesn't work either, because we know what a shotgun does in the Legion universe because of the Fleets.

I think of the scout blasters as the Desert Eagle of Star Wars

Anyone painting their scouts alternative colors? I'm thinking of sand camo

I have one squad in classic white/black, and will paint my second as storm commandos of old, black.
