Rexler Whisper Ioncontrol

By GreenDragoon, in X-Wing Squad Lists

A new list idea, now with Rexler and Ion control instead of Soontir and Redline with Torps+Bombs:

Rexler Brath (84)
Juke (4)

"Whisper" (52)
Juke (4)

Major Vynder (41)
Collision Detector (5)
Advanced SLAM (3)
Xg-1 Assault Configuration (0)
Ion Cannon (5)

Total: 198

Whisper and Rexler are basically set. They get extra benefit out of their innate abilities with Juke.
Major Vynder is the new part. After a slam, he is a 3/3/4/3 ship with (very likely) a focus. Rexler is a 3/3/3/4 ship with focus+evade. Both have to move fast, and Whisper can easily keep up with the decloak.

What about the collision detector? My thought is that Vynder really wants to slam, even if there is an obstacle in the way. I have no clue whether that's better than the initiative bid.

Edit: I see two alternatives I want to try:

  1. Remove AdvSLAM and CD for an advanced sensor on probably Rexler, maybe Whisper
  2. Remove CD for an advanced proton torp on Vynder, which is quite easy to land on an ionized ship

I really suggest a higher bid. I would drop collision detector because imo it’s too situational on a star wing.

Cool observation with Vyder as having a defender-like statline at times.

Having not put too much ion on the table, I don't really know how often Vynder will actually be Ioning folks with three dice, since you need two uncancelled hits to get an ion token. Could OS-1 and Ion Torpedos work? Add FCS instead of Collision Detector, and you'll throw 4 dice, but only against a locked target. You'll also probably be without focus tokens more often, since you'll need to change lock, or reload. Kinda runs into the problems the TIE/Adv x1 has, where it's useless without a lock, and defenseless without a focus. Hrm. Things to think about.

For Collision Detector, I might move it to Whisper. I've only flown CD on whisper twice, but both games I felt I was able to use it to good advantage. Decloak over an obstacle, maybe move over it too, and get into a really nice position.

Honestly, I expect to get very close very often, which will be range 1 and 4 dice. And according to a spaceowl blogpost, roughly 35%* of the range 1 area is bullseye, so maybe predator would be an idea for double mods?

I dare my opponent to ignore Rexler and Whisper, two great endgame ships!

I would like it on all three, but points... ;_;

Is that possible with decloak in 2.0? I didn‘t even realize, because 1.0 had decloak explicitly on the CD card, so I just assumes it‘s not anymore.

It‘s around 35% for range 1

35% instead of 25%

It works. A decloak is a kind of boost or barrel roll (not a Boost or Barrel Roll action, though). With the specificity of the decloak rules, they didn't need to include it in the ColDet text.

Predator doesn't work on Ion Cannon attacks--it's primary weapon only. I was super excited about HLC/Predator B-Wings (50 points only! great for hunting large-base ships!) until I reread the cards. Also, XG-1 prevents you from rolling more than 3 dice when you have a disarm token, so that's worth keeping in mind.

Thanks, I wasn‘t aware for decloak and predator!

Yes, either i get the 3/3 or a 4/2. the problem is that the decision basically happens during planning...

If you go with Vynder, I highly recommend:

Adv. Slam, APT, IC, Assault

This leaves you with 1 point.

If Vynder sneaks an Ion hit in after your friends have Juked them, the APT is killer as now you know where they will end up. Gives Vynder some teeth.

Yes, that‘s one of the alternatives I really want to try.

I‘ve been playing a gunboat for some time. Running away to reload is very familiar to me by now, and seems to remain relevant if using APTs

Scrap the whole idea. Rexler is great, Whisper is still ok even though I prefer her phat with vader and advanced sensors

But Vynder with ion didn't work for me
