Dark Phoenix

This is the end ...

I think it's interesting this and Captain Marvel — two movies focusing on a female character — coming out back to back. Once you remember the Phoenix serves as a metaphor for unrestrained sensuality and female empowerment you're basically having two wildly differing takes on a similar theme.

OHH.. I like. And so far, i am thoroughly enjoying Fasbender as Magneto!

Hate to tell you, but seems like they ended up pushing Dark Phoenix back to July of 2019 shortly after dropping the trailer. Based off the number of times its been delayed at this point I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't end up dropping it on the Disney Streaming service instead of it having a full release in theaters.

Yeah, I saw the delay. And it's June 2019.

My mistake. If it stays where it is I imagine it would be hit hard by the fact that Avengers and Godzilla come out in May, with Godzilla dropping the week before it. It doesn't help that the child audience will likely want their parents to take them to Secret Life of Pets 2 which reduces the pull it could have. The competition from the following weeks would prevent the film from having legs considering that it would be going up again MIB, and Toy Story. Throw in Spider-man the next month it seems like a horrible idea to keep it there along the same lines of releasing Solo when it did.

While all of that may have an impact on the final box office figures, NONE of it will have any actual impact on the actual quality of the film.

So - unless you're a Hollywood financier - what's the problem?

Given the timing of the reshuffling, they moved Dark Phoenix in order to give Alita a chance, as given the reception of the last Bumblebee trailer, Alita is going to get slaughtered if it kept its release date. And its not like the X films have ever had really good legs at the box office.

It does affect perceived quality of a film, and affects the amount of people who might see it and find they like it. Besides, I imagine Fox/Disney and the box offices would prefer it did well instead of flop considering the expense put into films. But in the end I guess it doesn't matter since the X-Men will just be rebooted into the MCU in a couple years or so.

This is not going to be a very good film. It'll probably be fun... but no good.

Will they be trying to fold this in with the rest of the MCU?

No.

Caosh ish a laddah Shansha
