So the RRG that dropped today has deleted the reference to the 2nd player getting a bonus fate during set up. Unfortunately the Tourney regulations still include that reference in their set up rules. Any word on whether we should expect to see a change to the tourney rules to reflect the change as well?

We should expect a change to the tourney rules, because no player chooses who goes first, so there's no longer a tiebreaker for games that end with tied points. I assume the extra fate will be addressed as well.

In fairness the RRG always had the winner of the roll off automatically being first player, and the tourney rules are the only place where they get the choice.

Someone had an example of when that was not the case actually saved to their harddrive. I don't know what version of the RRG, but it wasn't "always".

I can check the saved old ones I have when i get home to make sure but pretty sure its always been fixed in the RRG and that based on Gencon precedent giving players the choice that there was the grey area for a while until the Tourney Rules were released and confirmed it. I seem to recall the satisfaction when we got the first Tourney Rules document and it clarified the rule for everyone.

Yeah just checked and the RRG has always been fixed 1st player

So got my response back from FFG. Guess we can expect an update to the tourney rules before worlds.

"You should expect to see that change. I’m working with OP to make sure it gets updated before Worlds.

Sadly since the Learn to Play is printed and included in the core boxes its harder to update. However since the RRG trumps the Learn to Play the set up phases in there would by default override the Learn to Play ones.
