C-3P0 timing

By jocke01, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hi

I have a question about C-3P0 crew card. If i use C-3P0 crew on han solo in the Falcon. I guess 1 and roll My dice and get a blank. Can I trigger my han solo re-roll before C-3P0 trigger or does he trigger after my initial roll?

Unlikely but not entirely clear. 3po resolves instantly after the dice hit the table.

Ok, lame

Yeah... the answer is no, for a couple reasons:

  1. Assuming the 1.0 ruling carries over, rolling dice is not the same as rerolling dice. He would only work on the initial throw.
  2. Threepio looks at the results of only one dice throw , then acts accordingly. He doesn't wait for modifications (like converting results or rerolling dice), or function throughout the entire defense step. (This can work in your favor, because if you're rolling two dice and guess 1, and end up with evade-focus, Threepio adds one, then you can spend your other Calculate token for a third evade)

As a suggestion, you may be better off using Threepio on a ship that can make better use of his calculate tokens, like Leebo.

My only concern is that Han's reroll does not count as a reroll for other game effects, so it's possible that 3po would still see it as a "roll."

Hans reroll is still a reroll, it does not change it to become a roll.

Basically it means you can do things like target lock reroll his dice. But it does not change what it is.

3po clearly states roll, and Han clearly states it's a reroll. Just because it does not count as rerolling for other effects does not change it into a roll.

Further to the op's question 3po's ability is for that roll, not any subsequent rolls.

Han's reroll not being a reroll was one of the most foolish decisions FFG made in 2e, IMHO. He can use TLs now (big whoop), but the whole "it counts for this, it doesn't count for that" was a whole can of worms they opened for VERY little benefit.

A rectangle that doesn't count as a rectangle doesn't automatically become a square.

It's early in the game. They may outdo themselves.

A square is a rectangle and a rectangle can be a square but if a rectangle doesn't count as a rectangle then it must be a square. ☺️
