As an imperial player, I don't feel sorry for you at all (stress is a part of executing a maneuver btw).
My decimator lost that option, so trust me: just take the engine upgrade.

The maneuver isn't done until you do both parts of the instructions under perform a maneuver, the physical movement of the model is only half of the maneuver, check stress is the other half. Not the most intuitive way I've ever seen a rule written, granted, but that's how it works. Once both parts are done the maneuver step is complete, you trigger Lando, resolve that, then go to preform action step.
So here's the full sequence, putting together the sequences from from Activation Phase (p.3) and Maneuver (p. 13):
If you're really worried about it, spend 9 points on an Engine Upgrade.
Rebel Lando being able to 'almost' ignore asteroids is pretty dang powerful.

A ship FULLY executes a maneuver if it does not overlap a ship. If a ship executes a maneuver and overlaps a ship, it must PARTIALLY execute that maneuver by performing the following steps........
You can keep playing this way if you want. It's incorrect, but go ahead and keep doing it. Eventually, you will run into a judge that will correctly rule against you, or other players will just stop playing with you casually. Be prepared to be disappointed when you try to interpret the rules the way you are.
Multiple people have shown you how it works, but you are just refusing to listen.
I've been trying to build a list with Rebel Lando, Dutch and Garden for maximum action efficiency. Range 1-3 on their abilities makes them a bit better.
Points for upgrades are very thin on the ground though.

I've found this to be the case with many Lando squads I build. He's really good, but he certainly pays for it.

Absolutely. I think Lando & 2/3 support ships has a lot of potential - A or Z swarm maybe?
Lovin' Lando. He can basically regen a shield every time he does a blue move. Set his arcs to the sides, missile out the front, double-mod his shots or coordinate another ship and take an action.
L.O.V.E it.

This thread made my brain hurt

Imagine how my brain felt at two o' clock in the morning while this debate was going on.
I stepped away from this conversation because I eventually reached a point of pure mental exhaustion. I just now came back to this thread, and.....I get what everyone is saying now and I fully agree. The check difficulty step happens before Lando's pilot ability, so he doesn't get to clear his stress.
Now, with that being the case, it means that if Lando performs a blue maneuver while he already has a stress token, he is able to clear that stress token before his pilot ability would trigger.

Correct, Lando will still get his pilot ability in the case of having stress then clearing it with a a blue maneuver, and his normal perform action as long as nothing messes with that either.
