CalcuTTANI takes the 2.0 Launch Party Kit

By RoockieBoy, in X-Wing Battle Reports

Hi everyone! Last weekend I was finally able to play my first 2.0 tournament. I used a list I had only practised online, using the TTS.

I called it the CalcuTTANI.

Guri, AS, Outmaneuver, Virago, Afterburners

IG-88-A, Title

L3-37 (escape craft), IG-88D crew

192p

I didn't know how many points would be spent by other players in the bids, so I went the safe route, and took an 8p bid. The 2nd highest bid was 196, and most of them were 199-200...

16 players showed up and we played 3 games of swiss.

First game was against Corran, Thane, Cassian. My opponent made a mistake with Corran, who he BRd with a coordinate from Cassian, and after completing Corran's maneuver ended up pointing the wrong way, which I capitalised on and took him down in two turns. Cassian also took heavy damage pretty fast, and Thane was the last to go, but I won this one easily. None of my ships gave away any points.

Second game was against Cobra, Graz, Viktor Hel and a Quadjumper. Guri was an all-star here, dancing around the enemies dodging arcs. It took me a long time to kill his first ship because I was busy dodging arcs and I was forced to spread damage. Viktor died, Cobra and Graz lived on 1 hull each and the Quad was untouched. I only lost 2 shields on L3 and 3 on the IG. I didn't give away any points.

Third game was going to be hard, as he had Vader, who would move after Guri. He also had Vynder and Deathrain.

I put a lot of pressure on Vader and he made a mistake of dialing a 1s thinking it was blue, so it took him 3 turns to get back into the fight, so I went after Vynder and took him out with a glorious block by L3 over debris, letting Guri get a R1 TL+Focus+Outmaneuver kill shot. When Deathrain died the following turn he conceded. I didn't give away any points again.

So I went 3-0 with high MOV and went on to win the tournament. Considering it took me almost a whole year to win my first tournament in 1.0, the new edition is looking awesome! The list might not be very top, but it's really fun to fly, and it reminds me of all the fun I had with my attani list before the great nerf (Palob, Kaa'to and 2 Scyks).

I might take the list to the Spanish Nationals on October 12th, as it's the only 2.0 list I've played, and there's not much time left!

Did Virago pay for itself? I usually don’t consider 8 points worth it for a shield device, so paying 2 more for the end phase red boost seems a bit much (since you’ve likely boosted and/or performed a linked action previously?).

I don’t know if you wouldn’t be much better served with proton bombs, trajectory simulator and predator on IG88.

Or instead of the escape craft, use the points to fit in a HWK, to either strip green tokens or reduce rival aces to initiative 0.

I do love me some star viper though, I wish we just had another 4+ named pilot (since Xizor sucks IMO), so I can run three of them.

Virago is mainly there for the extra shield. The end phase red boost doesn't get along well with advanced sensors, so I hardly ever use it, but it's a nice thing to have as an option. In the 2nd game I was really considering to use it as the Quadjumper was in front of Guri, and he could easily tractor me into a rock before I could do anything. Doing that red boost would put me right in front and wouldn't let him fit any maneuver while also doing the tractor action. I ended up not using it as I realised he was stressed from a segnor, so the 1 speed maneuvers weren't an option. In the 10 or so games I've played Guri, I only used the red boost in a game against a Tie Swarm, and it proved very useful, as I denied some super easy blocks for next turn as I flew past them.

The IG-88 build I used the first games had Rigged cargo, elusive, Tractor, Ion Cannon... but I ended up stripping him of all those upgrades as I rarely used them enough to justify the cost. Having an 8p bid has proven very useful.

I have yet to try Palob or Torkil, but I would have to make a lot of changes to the list, as they're more expensive.

L3-37 is 26p, which is 13p in the old 1.0 version. That's awesome for a ship that can block, coordinate, and pass calculate tokens. She even did 3 damage to vader in the last game!

What's with the "TTANI" as there is no aTTANI mindling in 2.0 ?

Yeah it's just a silly name. It's just because the token passing shenanigans reminds me of the good ole attani lists I used in 1.0 until they nerfed Attani to 2 ships. I had a lot of fun with them, (Torkil/Palob, 2 Scyks, Kaa'to) won my first small tournaments and got my first acrylic swag at the Tatooine Open.

This is actually an interesting point.... I think the red boost WOULD work with Advanced Sensors. Advanced Sensors prevent you from performing another action during your activation. Virago takes place during the end phase, which is after the Activation (and subsequent Engagement) phase(s) have concluded. You wouldn't be able to do it if you boosted during your advanced sensors, since it still falls under "only 1 attempt per action per round" rule, but if you barrel rolled, you're good to go. Of course, you miss out on the linked calculate in that case (or rather the red calculate would lock out the red boost).

I think you are correct. I also think it works, as the activation phase has already passed.

What I meant is it shuts down Advanced Sensors the following turn, as you end up stressed, and you can’t avoid being blocked that turn, which leaves Guri in a very vulnerable spot. But it definately has some uses
