Arvel Crynyd

By PhoenixIgnite, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Does Arvel Crynyd count as failing his boost action even though he is allowed to resolve it? So in regards to Composure will that trigger?

Thanks in advance

I would say that Arvel does not fail. His ability takes what would be a Failed boost, and then causes it to resolve in a 3rd way (not the standard resolution, not the failure resolution, but the Arvel "partially executed maneuver" resolution). I think a key word here is "instead." Arven doesn't fail, but [does this] instead .

Agreed. Arvel's ability explicitly states that the boost is resolved instead of failing.

I'll throw my 2 cents in as well for "not failed". He resolves it successfully in his special Arvel way.

But you don't need to anyway because you could just use the A-Wings Vectored Thrusgers to focus into a boost anyway. Sure you get a stress but that's pretty minor on an A-Wing especially.

I would like to update this topic- are there other opinions on composure not working on Arvel? I would really like it to work on him,especially after release of new points.

I think people are fishing for a way to target lock and then focus by failing the boost...

But that wouldn’t be possible anyway, since the boost;

a) doesn’t fail, but resolves as a partial manoeuvre instead

b) is red, so you’d be stressed and wouldn’t be able to take the focus action from composure

Just take Predator instead for the reroll and focus with a linked boost to range 0, and Intimidation to remove one of their green dice. That’s all Arvel really needs ;)

this is super clear. it's on his card.

If you would fail a (boost) action by overlapping another ship, resolve it as though you were partially executing a maneuver instead.

it's a replacement effect. it even says "if you would fail", not "when you fail", so of course it's not a failed action.
