Navigating Leia's Ability

By SpiderMana, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I think this is how this all plays out, but in case I'm missing something:

Leia in a list with Seasoned Navigators. Her ability lasts the whole phase, Navigators don't seem to come into play until you reveal your dial.

So you can Navigate to a new maneuver of the same speed that was originally red, made easier by Leia's ability?

But you can't choose a new maneuver, make it red via Navigator, and then say Leia's ability makes it easier at that point.

Right?

No, i think you can. Navigator increases the difficulty, Leia reduces it, net no change.

You know I definitely thought Navigator said to just consider the final maneuver as red, even though I referenced everything while I wrote the post.

But if it's originally a red move, Leia makes it easier for the phase, and then Navigator makes it red again, because timing.

So she's still better for the combo than I was thinking? That's dope.

I think so. She;s a blanket downgrade to all reds.

FOr the record:

At the start of the Activation Phase, you may spend 3 . During this phase, each friendly ship reduces the difficulty of its red maneuvers.

After you reveal your dial, you may set your dial to another non-red maneuver of the same speed. While you execute that maneuver, increase its difficulty.

As far as I understand it, reducing and increasing difficulty results in a net no change. So, you can Nav to a green move and it will be white, you can nav to a red move and it will be white because Leia then red because Navigator, or you can nav to a white move which becomes red because navigator then white because Leia.

But I'm not 100% up on the rules ref for move difficulty, it might preclude this.

(Also, if you picked the right move to start off with you wouldn't waste 5 points and a crew slot on navigator :P)

The list I put them in is 3x generic Auzi's, so I mean.

The rules reference does state that increasing and decreasing the difficulty of maneuvers is cumulative and offsetting.

Looking specifically at the texts of Seasoned Navigator (increase the difficulty of the maneuver you set your dial to) and Leia (reduce the difficulty of your red maneuvers), I don't think there's any reason they wouldn't offset. Well. I can think of one case. If SNav adjusts your dial to a Blue maneuver, it's increased in difficulty to a White Maneuver, and Leia doesn't offset it, it will stay white.

Hm. So I guess the only thing I'd question would be if the following works, which it seems to.

*Leia makes ship's red maneuvers easier, so they're now white*

*Seasoned Navigator chooses a white maneuver, previously red or not*

When Seasoned Navigator makes it's chosen white maneuver more difficult, it's now red. Leia's ability still makes the red maneuver easier.

Seems legit. :D

I don't think you could use Leia twice on the same reveal though. You could either do red to white with leia to red with nav or white to red with nav to white with Leia but you couldn't do red to white with Leia to red with nav back to white with Leia.

I don't think.

I'd agree with this. Leia is one step of reduction, Navigator is one step of difficulty increase. With Leia, Navigate to a formerly-red maneuver, and it's still red. Navigate to a formerly white maneuver, and it's still white.
