First 2.0 nerf victim: composure

See the Second Edition page, there's a new version which will be official on 28 Sept.

Okay so I am guessing page 3 of the new rule book on actions is that correct?

So the question is the effects of composure on a failed red action. I wouldn't call it a Nerf as written as intended. Red Actions should come with risk. I guess you don't put composure on Red Boost actions without engine upgrade.

There's no question at all if you look at the updated rules reference. You gain a stress if you fail a red action, composure triggers after you fail an action, you can't do actions if you're stressed.

Which makes it costing 2 points a lot more valid. It’s only useful sometimes and not a way to cheat actions.

Guri does not have the focus action on her action bar, and as such does not meet the requirements to equip composure.

Although it saddens me to learn of this, thanks for pointing it out :)

I feel that I will make many similar mistakes before I fully master V2.0 list building ;)

False.

The first nerf victim was clearly the mod slot on Fang Fighters after they'd already been ordered from the printer with Afterburners in the pack.

That's what I said

“After a red action fails, gain a stress token”

“After you fail an action [get a focus if no green tokens]”

The section under Ability Queue states that a player can choose what order to resolve their effects in. So you can take your normal action, link it, and if it fails, you can at least choose to link a focus instead (assuming you have no green tokens).

Or am I the only one that sees it that way?

I don't think so. You can't Compose because of a stress token from the red action... Action, link action (usually red) and receive stress -> fail , Composure (and no green tokens) triggers but one can't "perform" actions while stressed.

The new mini FAQ states that failed actions give stress. Composure let‘s you do a focus action after a failed action. But now you’ve got stress which doesn‘t let you do actions.

Soooo i guess with some rare exceptions (contraband cybernetics) this upgrade has now become absolutely useless before most of us have even tried it?

Where's this faq located?

Ability Queue:

"If there are game effects that share the same timing window as a player’s ability, the game effect is resolved first.

◊ For example, if a ship performs a red barrel roll and the ship has an ability that triggers after it performs a barrel roll, the ship gains a stress token before the other ability is resolved."

Stress from the red action is a game effect and jumps the queue ahead of your Composure effect.

Main FFG Xwing 2.0 page under rules, upcoming rules ref, page 11 under fail, red text. The faq people refer to is not a sepetate thing or an faq at all just changes to the RR.

It still hurts...

Haven't got it to the table yet but I've been theory crafting with Composure on Sabine. She was my favorite role filler as a blocker in 1.0 and I plan to break her out again soon. The combo of her ability (boost or BR before activation) plus the solid dial of the TIE gives her killer "How did you get THERE?" ability. Even better if you boost off the start and then BR after.

Fly in formation or near rocks on the approach, then on activation trigger her ability to deliberately fail a boost say, get your free focus and then zoom up and BR into blocking position with a focus or just, fail for the focus and then zoom up and evade. Can also fail for a focus right before a K-Turn so you still get the token.

Also works in the attack shuttle if you want that one.

Thanks!

If Targeting Computer ever returns to 2.0, Composure has competitive use on Rebel Sabine. For 32 (TIE) or 42 (Shuttle) pts, you could use failed Barrel Rolls or Boosts to get your Focus, then Target Lock to get double mods. Any other ship that can get a free Boost or Barrel Boll and the ability to Focus and Target Lock could use it too. Would be difficult to pull off reliably though without flying in formation with a I3+ teammate to help fail your reposition actions.
