Converting 1.0 TIE Fighters with just the 2.0 Core Set and/or TIE/ln Fighter Expansion Pack (for unofficial games)

By Hessen, in X-Wing

Has this been discussed before? Has anyone done so? The biggest hindrances for using the old miniatures are the new ship tokens and dials (manoeuvres). TIE Fighter is one of the few ships whose dials were not changed. So for casual gaming the old dials are fine. Also the 2.0 Core Set comes with 6 ship tokens and the expansion pack with 5. If one is careful in list building and choosing pilots, those two purchases allow to convert up to 8 (=(6-2)+(5-1)) TIE Fighters, which is more than enough for a nice swarm! (And TIE Fighters do not even require shields :)) And if I am not mistaken one could do a similar style conversion with Protectorate Starfighters/Fang Fighters and later with Lambda-Class Shuttle. Have I forgotten something important why it would not work?

Getting Conversion Kits for all three factions was not a difficult decision for me at all but maybe this observation gets someone with a bunch of 1.0 TIE Fighters back for X-Wing 2.0.

Yup, this is what I am doing at my club. Use the old tie fighter dials is fine for casual. It won't fly at an tourney though. :(

Another problem is that you won't have enough academy pilot base templates and annoyingly there is no more little numbers you can use to signify pilot skill as they are now target locks.
