Gunboat 2.0

Havent heard a word about these in 2.0. Anybody flying them or seeing them across the tables? Is the lack of Harpoons hurting them and how is their new sensor slot being loaded up?

I get the impression that bombers are just out and out better for now but what's everyone else's read on the state of affairs?

Need more games to determine anything solid, but

1.) This ain't first Ed

Now that bombers don't have garbage dials, they're your go-to cheapo ordnance platform

Not having harpoons is meaningless, the bomber just doesn't suck anymore

2.) What are the Gunboat's strengths?

Now that it isn't strictly a better bomber, what can it do?

Well, SLAM

The Gunboat is exceptionally mobile, especially when you realize that you can fully execute manuevers even after overlapping obstacles (relevant for ASLAM)

So, if you're gonna come on and SLAM, you'll need to learn to love the loadouts

3.) Os-1 seems to suck

Not gonna parse words here, the title is imo far too much work for just not enough in return

...

So, where does all this leave us?

Imo, with xg-1 + ion cannon (the only good cannon) + adv protons + Aslam

Tried prockets, but bullseye is too **** tough to land

I've flown Vynder a few times so far, and while he was exceptional, the rest of the list just sorta fell apart. Since he had prockets at the time (couldn't land a bullseye for ****) he couldn't carry the game at one damage a shot

But the potential is there in his speed and durability. So, herell be my next attempt:

I find them very effective anti-ace. I load one homing missile (perfect against stealth device) and another torp depending of my points. The shields make them more solid than bomber, very good in late game.

Homing missile OS-1 could be a tentative thing

Low I Target-locks suck and boats just can't get good mods without outside support, but that hardly matters with the "I'll take one damage, please" missiles

Just wish we could fit them and barrage rockets on the same ship :(

Currently, though, I think ion cannon + apt is the way to go

Advanced Slam and Arsenal Loadout is really very good and makes it entirely practical to Target Lock higher PS targets (even if you cant spend it). The gunboat also has an absurdly good stat line for 2.0 and is as tanky as any small base available for the cost. I think these will see more use as people's understanding of the extended format evolves. Its not as simple as "Bombers or Punishers vs Gunboats". They have a role, just need to find it. I'm not sure what it is yet.

Upon reflection, an os-1 Vynder might not be a bad idea. Can't imagine it's easy to avoid SLAM torps

I just can't bring myself to go with anything aside from this XG-1 load out. (Glad to see you liking the APT more than the prockets). The OS-1 title is lame and very action heavy for its damage output.

Yeah, I'm inclined to agree that os-1 just won't be as reliable as the xg-1. I've played enough ion Seri to know that the little cannon is surprisingly reliable!

Though I admit, it's hard to resist the siren call of MORE! DICE!

I’ve played a few games with ASLAM Vynder... I keep him pretty light, just one munition and advanced SLAM makes him a great flanker. It always warms my heart when several ships try and track him down before they realize he’s only fifty-odd points behind three greens and focus.

I favor that or Proton Torps and either no talent or outmaneuver.

I just don’t like SS. It’s expensive, it costs charges, and it forces you to choose two dice, even if you only want to reroll one. It’s not as stupid as the old one, but I don’t like all the restrictions given it’s cost. It is also really weird that the bomber is a better saturation platform than the punisher, which has four times as many launch tubes.
