Jumping on the bandwagon

By robbypogi, in X-Wing

Been practicing this list yesterday to take to my first ever X-Wing tournament ever. Only been playing casually since June using Rebels. Decided to switch to Imperials for 2.0.

Only trouble is Soontir gets wiped out too easily. Tried a Punisher but couldn’t just fly a medium ship that well yet.

Hoping for some tips and feedback. Thanks!

TIE/in Interceptor - Soontir Fel - 54
•Soontir Fel - Ace of Legend (52)
Predator (2)

TIE/ph Phantom - “Echo” - 68
•“Echo” - Slippery Trickster (50)
Juke (4)
Advanced Sensors (8)
Agent Kallus (6)

TIE/ph Phantom - “Whisper” - 78
•“Whisper” - Soft-Spoken Slayer (52)
Juke (4)
Advanced Sensors (8)
Darth Vader (14)

Total: 200/200

What options do you have? You could try mark Steele with fire control system and marksmanship. It doesn't have the upside that fel does but it's easier to fly and durable. You could also try two cheap tie fighters like night beast that way you can try for an initiative bid.

Just to clarify fel makes a lot of sense but it takes practice to leverage his abilities. I do think he fits your list better than my suggestions but he is is more riskier.

Drop adv sensors from echo for an 8pt bid. Will help you in most matches more than a ps4 having adv sensors. Soontir moving last is going to be your saving grace vs the hundred vader lists out there with supernatural reflexes

Alternately drop sensors on both, and use Collision Detector instead. That gets you a 6 point bid.

But your Soontir is fine, he is, however, tricky to use. All I can say is… practice. Get good at not getting shot. And people may place an outsized priority on him, or any one of your ships, use that to your advantage.

Also I may swap Kallus and Vader. Whisper is already the bigger target, making your opponent targeting priority harder is more beneficial, Id think. Also Echo can be in more places, so more opportunity to Vader. Also Whisper gets an additional Evade token, so it makes more sense to give Echo more mods.

Thanks, @reqent .

Sadly, the only experience I have for imperials is the Tie Punisher which I have a hard time maneuvering in a medium base. Will see how I fly with the Tie/LN options. I played a game again yesterday and Soontir got destroyed again in round 3. Thankfully, the Phantoms pulled through and I won.

At 68 points for Echo alone, you can look at a couple 34 point fillers. Two alpha interceptors, or a couple barrage bombers. It's two more arcs for enemies to contend with and could give your aces a bit more room to breathe since they aren't easily singled out as targets.

You can also look at something like a Palpatine + Hull Upgrade Vermeil Reaper. If whisper zaps a green token off of someone with Vader, Vermeil can put a hurt on them. Palp can help keep soontir alive if he's seeing multiple shots at him.

Fel isn't bad by any means, but you definitely need to make room for a bid- switching to collision detector is my first thought- You get a lot of the unpredictability of advanced sensors as well as better equiping the phantoms to fly in the dense asteroid thickets Soontir Fel loves. Speaking of asteroid thickets and Fel, I think Trick Shot might be a better choice than Predator since it's pretty easy to trigger for Fel while just doing what comes naturally to him.

On the other hand, if you cut the phantoms down to just Juke, you clear up enough points for Rexler Brath or Countess Ryad with Juke, which would make for a nice hammer and anvil approach. I also like @viedit 's suggestion of a support Reaper. Lt. Sai with assorted goodies is also an interesting choice, but the Lamda really hates the asteroid fields Fel needs to break up fields of fire.

You guys are right about dropping the Advanced Sensors on the Tie Phantoms. Collision Detector worked wonders. I flew better. Thank you!

Will try the Reaper support build as well but I’ll go with the Soontir build for this Friday’s tournament. ?
