Which Falcon is which?

By DoubleOdd, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Just as a question, can I use a Rebel build for a YT-1300 on the Resistance version model, or have the rules changed enough to distinguish between the three versions of the YT-1300?

I ask because I don't know if I should wait for the Resistance Conversion Kit to be released before I can use the YT-1300 that came with the "Heroes of the Resistance" pack...

There is nothing official yet. If you're playing in a tournament it might be a good idea to ask beforehand. The general consensus seems to be "Because there is no way you can fly both versions of the Falcon in the same list there is no reason for them not to be interchangeable."
Similar to how you can fly a scum Y-Wing in a rebel list or Sabine's TIE fighter in a Imperial list (just talking about the model here, not the pilots!).

But as I said, as long as there is no official statement by FFG it might be safer to ask before going to a tournament.

I wonder, if the answer is that they are interchangeable, will we also be able to use Resistance A-Wings as Rebel A-Wings and vice-versa (assuming you have the apporopriate dials/cards/tokens).

The letter-of-the-law answer (at least from First Edition) is, "you may ONLY use the correct model for your ships (though specific paint schemes aren't important)." Using a TIE/fo in place of a TIE/ln was technically as illegal as using a T-70 X-Wing in place of a T-65. The Falcons were different, because it was a new mold for a pre-existing ship, and therefore were both considered legal for all versions. We don't know how strict the rule will be for Second Edition yet.

The traditional answer is, "as long as it's clear what is what, and there's no chance for your opponent to get confused, models aren't that critical." Heck... half the time I fly a Decimator, it's just a base because the model is too wobbly on its own. Using the incorrect model for a ship in any official format is usually frowned upon, outside of extenuating circumstances (my one TIE Advanced Prototype broke last round, so I'm using a regular TIE Advanced model instead).

As for the future of the line... since Rebels and Resistance are different factions, I imagine that the new A-Wings will be visually distinct from classic A-Wings, model-wise, to preclude their official use for Rebels (and I suspect we'll get a 3rd YT-1300 variant for the Resistance, too).

3rd YT-1300 variant??? We already have 3.

For 2nd edition scum has the Customized YT-1300 while rebels get the Modified YT-1300. Bold emphasis mine, but the distinguishing nomenclature is on the pilot cards.

I think @emeraldbeacon is referring to the possibility of getting yet another "different" YT-1300 in the Resistance conversion pack, maybe a Junkyard YT-1300?

  • Salvaged YT-1300
  • Vintage YT-1300
  • Garbage YT-1300

"The Garbage will do" ?

If the latest article for the Resistance Conversion Kit is to be believed, then the Resistance version of the Millennium Falcon is called the

" Scavenged YT-1300 light freighter"

Emphasis on the scavenged...

The Rey Pilot card lists it as only a "Scavenged YT-1300", dropping the light freighter bit entirely.

Also, I did some digging... To answer my original question, "can I use my Resistance Millennium Falcon model with Rebel pilots.?" If the tournament rules are to be believed, the answer is a no...because each model has some differences between them. Some organizers might look the other way on this, but maybe not...

Concur. RAW they're different models with different names, so you can't interchange them.

In practice I very much doubt that anyone will ever care, and even if they do, I doubt a judge would uphold the complaint, given that there are no instances where one of them COULD be another in a given list.

As long as you're using the correct dial I'm sure it would be fine.
