Bistan vs Vereran Turret Gunner?

By CrazyDec, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hello everyone,

I’m just looking for some clarification as I’m not entirely sure what the difference is between the cards.

So veteran turret gunner allows a bonus attack with a turret following a primary weapon attack.

And Bistan allows a bonus turret attack if focused onto a different target other than the primary weapon attack.

Am I misreading something here as I’m not sure why Bistan costs more, when in my eyes you can’t double tap the same target like veteran can.

Im sorry if this has been talked about before but I’m just looking for clarification.

cheers :)

With VTG you cannot attack from the same turret weapon twice. With Bistan you can.

With Bistan you may attack twice per turn with a turret primary weapon (i.e. YT1300 or YT2400), as long as you have a focus token and choose 2 different objectives.

With VTG you can perform a primary attack and then a turret attack BUT only with a turret gun that has not attacked this turn. For example, an Y-Wing+Ion Turret may attack first with the primary (front) weapon and then with the turret. But VTG is useless if you only have 1 weapon.

Does this justify the point difference? Maybe...

Veteran Turret Gunner can use the same weapon if the weapon has two turret arcs. Both ends of a something like a YT13 or YT24, for example.

Yup.

And it's notable that there's currently no ship with a V primary, a turret primary, and a gunner slot. I'd expect that not to change.

Kind of saddening, but it would give Scum too many double tap gunships (Y-Wing, Moldy HWK, Scurrg, and Lancer) and make choosing Kavil a slightly questionable proposition. Currently he (with Dorsal turret, Vet Turret gunner and Trick shot) and Hera VCX (trick shot, dorsal turret and vet turret gunner or Rebel Gunner Han) are the only two that can dump more than 8 (primary/bonus for 4/5 on Kavil for 9, 6/4 on Hera for 10 @ range 1. Kavil can dump 7 dice on a target at range 2, Hera 8 ) dice in an attack on one target in a round (including intervening obstacle). The Lancer with a Vet turret gunner at range 1 without trick shot would do 7 (4/3), 9 (5/4) range 1 with trick shot added. Trickshot + Vet turret gunner would have Lancer at 7 (4/3) at range 3 with an intervening obstacle (HWK 290 with Moldy would do the same). Similar goes for the Scurrg… Lok + vet turret gunner + dorsal at range 1 would be 7 die (4/3) increasing to 9 (5/4) with Nym and Sol with Trick shot and intervening obstacle. Saddening but understandable. :(

I wouldn't be surprised if the TIE/fo has exactly that, to be honest...

I think it will but I also think that you will never not want to use its dedicated Gunner.

Wasn't the turret on the TIE/sf a tail gun. FO just had the forwards guns.

Never mind, the cards for the SF have an actual turret indicated, not a tail gun.

It is a turret that can't shoot sideways.
