A few Imperial questions from a new player

By dmateja, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I have just started playing and I have a few questions regarding some Imperial abilities.

1) Grand Inquisitor says when you attack a defender at range 2-3 you can spend a force to apply the range 1 bonus. Does this mean that at range 3 both ships would get a bonus die?

2) Tie Advanced- his actions show a focus to a red barrel roll. Can you just focus without performing the linking action?

3) Ved Foslo says While you execute a maneuver, you may execute a maneuver of the same bearing and difficulty of a speed 1 higher or lower instead. Does that mean for example, if I do a 3 Forward I can change it to a 2 forward but not a 4 forward as 2 and 3 are blue and 4 is white? It would seem to greatly reduce the options if this is the case.

Thanks in advance for your help.

1. At range 3, Grand Inquisitor can indeed spend a force to get a range 1 bonus, but that effect does not deny his opponent their bonus at range 3. Therefore, in your scenario, both ships roll an extra die.

2. For linked actions, you have the option of just performing the first, white action, or linking to the red action as well. You aren't required to perform the linked, red action.

3. Ved Foslo does not change the maneuver you selected to a different one on your dial... he modifies the maneuver entirely. The maneuver retains its initial bearing and difficulty, but may be executed at one speed higher or lower. If you select a 3-forward that is blue, you can perform a 2-forward or 4-forward instead, and it'll still be blue. The same is true for maneuvers he doesn't even have: By revealing a 4-speed K-Turn, you can execute it as a 3-speed or 5-speed, or your 3-speed Talon Rolls can become 2-speed (but not 4, because a 4-speed turn template doesn't exist). He can also slow down 2-speed hard turns to 1-speed, if you so choose.

1) As I expected.

2) I found this answer right after I posted by reading more carefully.

3) This is the answer I hoped for.

Thank you very much for the answers.
