Supernatural Reflexes and S-Foils

By bllaw, in X-Wing Rules Questions

So if Luke is about to activate and before he does, he is able to flip his S-foils so that he can then boost with his Supernatural Reflexes. After he does that, since it is still before he activates, is he able to trigger the S-foils flipping again to attack position? I know the same ability cannot trigger during the same time frame, but is it considered a different ability since it's the other side of the card?

Thanks

Flipping the card is what's happening... there is only one card. I would say that falls under the once per opportunity rules.

They both occur in the same timing window "before you activate." You can process in either order but you don't get two chances to flip. You don't get two "before you activate windows."

You could not close s-foils, do the reflexes boost, and then open the s-foils.

If s-foils were already closed you could boost, avoid the damage, and then open S-foils though.

Only one chance to flip though as only one "before you activate."

@Frimmel has it right.

This kind of situation is actually addressed in the "action queue" portion of the rules reference. With a given game trigger (in this case, "Before you activate"), you select all the abilities you want to (or have to) trigger, then resolve them in order of Game Effects (like Console Fire), then Ship/Upgrade Abilities.

So Going off the original question. Since you are using force tokens can you use both force tokens while closed to boost and barrel roll then open foils and maneuver? Its not like an action card where you spend a charge and thats your action.

Using Supernatural Reflexes is still a once per opportunity thing. "Before you activate, you may spend one force to perform a [relevant] action." There's one trigger - your ship's activation - and one opportunity to use the upgrade. Unless a card specifically states that you can do it multiple times, it's limited to just the one chance per opportunity.

Going back to the description of the "action queue," you'd need to double-trigger the card to use both force tokens; it could work if, somehow, your ship could somehow activate twice in a round (but so far that's not a thing).

There may be some confusion coming from Vader. Vader allows you to, once per action, spend a force charge to take an extra action. With Supernatural Reflexes, Vader can activate SR, then chain any number of other actions off that original action, so long as he has force to spend, and then go through the rest of his turn. That's not a feature of Supernatural Reflexes, but a feature of Darth Vader.
