Scimitars look ugly
Waves of Obscure Ships?

As for storylines, both are highly variable in quality. New canon has the sequels, but EU had the sun crusher, the vong, the dark saber, clone emperor, etc... etc.... etc...
EU had the Thrawn trilogy, the rogue squadron books, but new canon has rebels, last season of clone wars, the outstanding comics
While the Sun Crusher itself was stupid OP, in a way, the story that surrounded the sun crusher was interesting. I liked Kip, How Han went after him, and the Hidden Imperial fleet in the Maw. Clone Emperor wasn't bad either, especially if you take in the clone wars, Dark Side force abilites.
Thrawn, Rogue Squadron series, and stuff though were beyond great, and NEVER should have been tossed into the "EU Garbage" in my eyes. It was a major insult to the writers.

No, this is ugly. It could have 1 black dice for each pod and I would... use it begrudgingly. ?

See, I dont get why people dont like the Punisher, but yet are acceptable of the Tie Bomber. At least the Punisher is symetrical, and is a heavy assault craft. ALso, it looks better then just the one with "one extra" torpedo tube

Take existing design and slap more weapon pods on it. It seems pretty practical to me.

They also added shield generators and I think it even has a hyper drive
I happen to like both the punisher and the scimitar.
Honestly I changed my mind about disliking the TIE Punisher, credit for that change of mind goes to @Zeoinxand @TallGiraffe
So is 4 black dice reasonable? It does have 3 more pods than the TIE Bomber...

in space things do not have to be
I'd rather have tie heavy bombers

No TIE Hunter? Shame. I like that design.

I think it’s a lazy design for that very reason.
There are some ugly Tie designs on that sheet.
I liked a the Old EU, although i wasn't a big fan of the Yuuzhan Vong invasion and I agree that things like the Suncrusher were a big miss.
What I really liked the most about old EU vs the new Canon sequal stuff is that it felt better in scale. It truly made a galaxy wide war feel to take a long time where the sequals make it feel like the war is won or lost in a matter of weeks. Also think they should have thought about the miss in things like the Suncrusher and then not try to top it with things like Star Killer base.
Do really enjoy what Rogue One has given us and Solo was not bad in my eyes, so it gives me hope they will give us some good canon still.
I would love to see some of the old EU ships even though not all people will recognize them directly. I hope some of the old ships make it back into Canon as they have done already for some ships.

It be nice if FFG did an expansion with the Imperial Escort Carrier and 2 TIE Hunters in a box, maybe an Storm Commandos Boarding Team too?
The name "Imperial Escort Carrier" was Canonized in Tarkin, and Storm Commandos are Canon again because of a mobile game, so the only thing missing is the Canonical reintroduction of the TIE Hunter.

This is an excellent statement because it pinpoints my exact problem with obscure legends/obscure canon. I consider myself an avid Star Wars fan, yet have never heard of or seen any of these three suggestions. Since I cannot recognize them, I have no attachment to them, which does not get me the least bit excited about a release that includes all three of them.

The escort carrier is a decent design that keeps it triangle-y but with a different twist.
The Hunter to my mind tho was a bit of a lazy take on an imperial xwing. There are plenty of decent imperial fighters that haven’t been used yet, the Avenger most notably.

The TIE Hunter is essentially the Imperial X-Wing, designed for exclusive use for the Storm Commandos.

Storm Commandos are Special Forces that use guerrilla warfare against the Rebel Alliance.
The Imperial Escort Carrier is an exclusive of this Stormtrooper branch, roughly about the size of a Nebulon-B.

Even though it is obscure it would be well liked by Imperial players quickly I think, because the Escort Carrier would fill the small front arc ship niche, and the TIE Hunter would join the TIE Defender in being another fighter-bomber option for the Empire.
Potentially FFG could be the starting point of increasing interest in obscure ships/squadrons, perhaps to the point of an onscreen appearance.
After all the Raider started out as a unknown ship, now it's in Battefront II.

I am a fan of the Avenger, but the TIE Hunter would "TIE" in with an Escort Carrier release very well.
Or we could straight up steal the X-Wing...

Why go so obscure?
i mean, the escort carrier mentioned and described (The Goliath) carried what? V19s or V-Wings, and a single ETA-2.
Why not have those in the box since they’re directly mentioned?
on that note...
... I enjoy how even Tarkin was happy not to fly a TIE fighter.

Reading the description of the Goliath on Wookieepedia it sounds like it is a Ton Falk-class Escort Carrier instead of the Storm Commando Escort Carrier.

Now that would not be an expansion worth doing, the Quasar Fire took the toothless carrier niche already.

Bottom Line Up Front: If someone has to Google what a ship, squadron, or special forces unit is and what it looks like, they are not going to be attached to it, which does not bode well for your argument that it should be in the game. And let's just take a look at the three options you presented. The Empire consists mainly on single-purpose fighters (aside from the R&V squadrons), with the major exception being the TIE Defender. Do we really want to add obscure (and frankly, imo, ugly) squadrons that change the thematic single-purpose make-up of Imperial squadrons so that they look more the multi-purpose Rebel squadron array? As for the Storm Commandos, does there really need to be an Imperial-only Boarding Troopers that is better than what they currently have available in Darth Vader, Boarding Troopers, and Boarding Engineers? And when it comes to Imperial Escort Carrier, I think that people would be more inclined to see the Imperial Support Vessel (as seen in Rebels), the thematic successor to the Katana Dreadnaughts that almost everyone seems to want. I can't seem to find size dimensions for the current Imperial Support Vessel, so if the size has not already been determined, there is no reason that ship can't fill the small ship void that you are seeking. Lastly, the Raider isn't a great example of an obscure ship that came to be a part of the game given that it was created specifically for X-Wing; as a small capital ship, it was only a matter of time before it was added to Armada.

While checking the Imperial Support Vessel page for details I noticed something awesome.

There's 2 versions of the Imperial Support Vessel, and one of them is the classic Dreadnaught shape! Yeah!
I should add that your points are solid, I'm just the type of guy who would be like "I don't recognize this ship", and then be intrigued enough to research it.

@Piratical Moustache I bet you run one heckuva narrative Armada campaign though. Your players would never what they could be facing in the vastness of the galaxy.
If it's about having to google/recogniseability I think nobody has to google nebulon B2, lancer frigate, or carrack cruiser.
do they?

Sometimes.
The B2 is the new with 2 handles sticking down, right?
Lancer gets mentioned enough that I have had to google it enough to actually remember it’s the boring, lame cylinder that was replaced by the much cooler raider
Carrack is a name I recognize, but can’t put a silhouette to, pretty sure it’s another boring cylinder though.
