I started playing X-Wing when I first came out and collected everything. After getting married I stopped playing and eventually sold my collection on EBay. Coincidentally, I sold everything 2 weeks before the announcement of 2.0.

2.0 has me excited to play again but I am going to keep my collection small this time. No tournaments. I just want to play with my son and friends and I want to keep my collection to iconic Star Wars ships.

So here are my questions:

Will they release the original trilogy Millenium Falcon? If so, I will hold off and not buy the current expansion.

What about the Firespray? Will they release an Empire version of Boba Fett instead of Scum? If so I would rather wait. I may just limit my collection to Rebels and Empire.

And the upcoming A-Wing expansion for the Resistance. Will there be a version for the Rebels released?

They’ll re-release everything eventually. The Firespray is already out ( but now Scum only).

I would think you'll see the original falcon at some point, but who knows when. And it could very well be a Resistance ship first as those movies are still active. I'd say wait to buy the Falcon (although the scum one is really cool with the escape pod).

I highly doubt you'll see another Firespray. I think they've made a decision to put Boba only in Scum at this point. I'd say go ahead and buy the Firespray.

I think it's likely you'll see the original A-wing and B-wing re-released at some point, but with a Resistance A-wing on the way, it's hard to imagine it happening for a few waves. Remember they put an aces pack with those ships out as well, so they've already done them twice. Still, they're iconic, so I think they'll gradually come back, hopefully sooner rather than later. If you want to avoid the new factions (Resistance and First Order), then I'd wait for the originals.

Tycho and some other Extended Universe pilots were cut and more recent pilots from Star Wars fiction were added like Inferno Squad.

In terms of what you should buy right now to have fun with your son? I'd say you couldn't go wrong with most of wave 1. You might just hold off on the Falcon, but you might have a hard time playing scum with just one Firespray and one Fang, so it might be worth it. It also comes with a lot of upgrades and if you're not getting any conversion kits and don't have a lot of upgrade cards then it could be worth it from that standpoint. I think that's also why you'll want the X-wing and TIE expansions to get pilots like Wedge that are not in the core.

If you bought a core and wave one you'd have: 2 X-wing, 1 Y-wing, 3 TIE fighters, 1 TIE Advanced (with Vader), 1 Slave One, 1 Fang fighter, 1 Solo Falcon

You could ignore wave 2 then. Alternatively, cut out the scum faction all together and focus on Rebel and Empire.

Tycho is not in 2.0 yet but there is still a chance for him to appear once the Rebel A-Wing 2.0 expansion comes out. The conversion kits give us pilots for every 1.0 ship but not necessarily ALL the pilots that will be available once the ship appears in 2.0.

I'd also point out that there's nothing that says you can't mix factions, especially with the new quick build option, when having fun at home. You could easily use the quick build list to add the Slave 1 to an Imperial squad. If you want to hold off on the Falcon and aren't interested in the Fang, this is probably your best bet right now.
