Maester Murenmure

By rosja, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Hey hey!

I've got one more question to you if you dont mind :)

Can i cancel the effect of Ser Arys Oakheart (discard my ally/merc) with Maester Murenmure?

I bet i can't do i, as the effect appears after he enters the play?

cheers

Sorry, I don't understand.... There's nothing in Arys' ability about drawing or revealing cards so why would you think that you could cancel it with Maester Murenmure?

Yeah, as schrecklich said, Maester Murenmure is completely inapplicable to Arys Oakheart's ability. Murenmure only cancels abilities that allow you to draw or reveal cards and Arys' discard ability has nothing to do with drawing or revealing cards.

Now, if I'm reading the second part of your question correctly, your reasoning for applying Murenmure to Arys seems to be that by playing Arys, a player has "revealed" Arys and thus triggering his ability based on that "reveal" action may make him susceptible. If that is indeed the reasoning you are following, the first thing to know is that "playing" a card is not the same as "revealing" a card. Even if it were, Arys' triggered effect is not actually what is playing/revealing anything, so Murenmure still doesn't apply - he could only be applied to playing Arys in the first place (which is not technically a triggered effect). Bottom line: Murenmure can only cancel effects that actually say "reveal a card" or "draw a card." He cannot cancel an effect that says something like "after a player draws a card..." (unless it then goes on to say something like "...then you draw a card").

The other possibility is that you actually want to know if Maester Wendamyr can save an Ally/Merc from Arys' ability. The answer to that is "yes," assuming the Ally/Merc is a GJ character.

yeah i ment if revealing Arys is some sort of triggered effect. Bit complicated way of thinking i guess, or maby i was just hoping for that lengua.gif

So for ex. Murenmure can cancel Court Arivist but not Put to the sword?

Very complicated - because playing Arys is not the same as revealing him.

Correct. Court Archivist lets you draw a card, so Murenmure can cancel it. Put to the Sword neither draws/reveals cards, nor is drawn/revealed itself when you play it, so Murenmure is totally out of left field on that one.

thanks for help ktom.

Although i cant find many usses for him - but that wasnt the topic :)

cheers!

He was money in the bank when every deck had 3x copies of Massing At Twilight, 3x copies of Watching the Heavens or both.
