Q's about Character creation/Talents?

By Recongregator, in Rogue Trader Rules Questions

Hi all,

My gaming group are currently preparing for our first try at Rogue Trader.

As such I wanted to ask about the Origin Path and how it can grant players certain advantages/disadvantages.

Some choices on the Origin Path give characters access to new talents. My question is, if you do not meet the requirements for the talent, do you still get it?

For example; I choose High Vendetta, and select the Die Hard talent. However, my Wp is only 37, while the requirements for the talent are Wp 40.

Do I still benefit from the Die Hard talent, or does it simply "Not work" until my Wp reaches 40?

Cheers

Do I still benefit from the Die Hard talent, or does it simply "Not work" until my Wp reaches 40?

I'd assume the latter. Keep the talent, but you can only use it at WP40 (though you might try combat-drugging your way there for a while... cool.gif )

Sweet, thanks for the idea. :)

There is precedent in the rules for the latter to be the case when a character has or is granted a talent and does not have the necessary prerequisite to use it.

Give them the talent anyway: they got it because the caharacter's history, not because they trained to get it, and there is actually one example in the origin's path where is stated you need WP 40+ to get an extra effect (pg 27, Duty Bound - Duty to the throne). Remember: the life is a hard teacher, so the ones with that background without having learnt the talent are... dead.
