Is everyone as impressed with the 2.0 HWK as I am?

By BCooper85, in X-Wing

Oh right, one more thing that ruins my poor Palob: ordnance

Palob's survivability (after factoring his ability + mods) is unfortunately still tied to his green dice

Just means ordnance getting full hits do GUARANTEED damage, and sometimes with ruinous crits

Nothing ruins my poor Palob like proton torps :(

Plus being at I 3 makes em kinda difficult to avoid since they're best on higher I platforms like Redline, Luke or wedge

Try running Jake sometime as Kyle's wing-man.

If you do it right you can take any action kyle wants that isn't focus (boost, Lock, Jam). Keep Jake in a position to boost or BR each turn, pass the focus action to kyle, and stay in kyle's mobile arc to get the second focus back.

Not top tier but I had fun flying it. Was able to block Soontir with Jake, still token up and let Luke Nuke'm.

Add 97pts of fun to...

Kyle Katarn — HWK-290 38
Perceptive Copilot 10
Engine Upgrade *
Moldy Crow 12
Ship Total: 63
Jake Farrell — A-Wing 40
Ship Total: 40

So, in rebels I only really like Xwings, moldy, and Sabine shuttle (have yet ti try arvel)

But kyle has really fun synergy with badasses like Wedge or pain-in-the-***...s like Biggs

Wedge with full mods on proton Torpedoes is disgusting

Plus, I've used Moldies to solo miniswarm pretty without issue. And I don't just mean Palob, I mean my Biggs + wedge + ap-5 list got mulched down to JUST Kyle v four Ties...and he still won

Obstacles + boosting + gobs of focus ftw

They're really nasty v low die count ships

Yeah, i’ve been super pleased with the HWK so far, particularly Palob, as others have attested. Only really used Palob and Kyle so far, but I’m looking forward to giving the likes of Torkil and Jan a good try.

As someone who has always loved the HWK, it’s new dial, actions, and Moldy Crow makes me absurdly pleased.

HWKS FOREVER!!

Yes.

Moldy Crow is the most undercosted upgrade in the game, Palob is the most undercosted pilot in the game, the whole HWK chassis has been given a fantastic upgrade in usefulness.

HWKs are crazy, especially Palob. It's nut to think that a HWK is probably the most dangerous jouster in the game, but Palob basically is.

What is Palob?

Disregard, it’s a scum pilot. I only play rebels.

Have you ever been tempted to try seasoned navigator on Dash?

I've played 5 games of 2.0 so far and in 4 of those games I've used slightly different variations of Kyle and he's been my star pilot.

  • The new Moldy Crow title is completely worth 12 points, giving the ship the ability to joust is awesome and really suits my play style.
  • I generally fly in quite a tight pinwheel so the ability to move his mobile arc to cover my other ships for his ability to trigger is great.
  • Not finding the dial an issue at all although I didn't really play with the 1.0 version and haven't checked to see how it's changed. The blue 3 straight is noice as is the stop.
  • The focus into move turret action is great.

Haven't used the jam action yet as honestly I'm not sure when to use it!

hawks were always good in 1.0 as well, Palob and Jan Ors in particular. people under estimate support craft.

It was a fun jank tactic to cloak Palob, swap his cloak out for slicer tools with Vizago, and just fly around denying tokens and occasionally pinging someone for 1 damage.

I’ve been running Palob with Fearless and that just seems ridiculous! But it’s a lot of fun!

Yesterday I flew Luke with Kyle and Jan. It went really well. The way how well it went leads me to idea of flying him with Jan and Roarke.

Freelance Slicer.

I tried it out yesterday, it's quite neat. It wouldn't stop the torp being fired at all, but it does take a bunch of the mods away when you can pinch a focus at SoC then kill their TL.

IMO new HWK without a title is worse than in 1.0. New HWK with a Moldy Crow title is much better than in 1.0.

also takes away the mods your title has been stashing

But on the other hand, you can use it without as much risk as most people because you still keep mods even if you get jammed.

I'm really enjoying the new rebels lineup of ships that can be a strong support, yet still pull their weight in the fray of combat. I know everyone is loving the new HWKs (which I haven't tried yet simply because I haven't painted my HWK), but I would say that Cassian w/ Leia & Tactical Officer and Dutch with Torps + whatever are up there too in terms of support capability. They're all so much more interesting than the slew of range 0/1 FSR knockoffs like Evaan, Garven, Aaren Cracken, etc.

The second 2.0 game I ran was a four-ship list Jan with Moldy Crow, Norra in an ARC, AP-5 and Bodhi Rook. Double Coordinates allowed Norra to roll up with a Focus and TL rolling four dice on every attack.

Engine Upgrade may as well be stapled to the new Crow. 3 points is a dirt cheap price to pay to gain a white boost action, especially when Jan wants to stay stress-free going into the combat phase.

I ran Palob with the Lando (Scum) Crew... It was wonderful.

Palob + Moldy Crow + Lando! thats some pretty nice synergy.

It was horribly consistent, getting 3-4 hits & 2 evades every time I had to roll. The matchups helped too, with a Whisper in one providing Evades, Barrage Bombers providing Focus in another, etc.

It comes out a little on the expensive side, but in 2.0 where it can be hard to token-stack or get multiple mods, its a lot of fun.

Is Nien Nunb worth flying on Kyle Katarn w/ engine upgrade and moldy crow? I haven't put him on the table yet, but focus -> rotate arc seems like it could be happening a lot. It seems like clearing stress on all of the slights could be quite strong.

You shouldn't be rotating your arc that much at all on a HWK. Set it to one side and kite.

When you do, being able to focus or lock and rotate is nice, but probably not worth the points you'd need to invest in Nien.

Ships they wanted to make better were made better

Ships they wanted to tone down has been completely knocked on their ka-base.

Ships that have been forgotten about are pretty much meh.

I think we can all say the HWK-290 is in the 1st category.
