Middle Ground

By SpiderMana, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So I flew it terribly, and still came out a little close in the end. I can’t wait to see how it flies when I /don’t/ misposition a ship on the first turn of engagement!

The idea is that Benthic shares a focus with Esege, and when Garven borrows use of Esege’s new focus he can give another one back to whomever needs it most. The K-Wing and Arc are free to lock or reposition as necessary. I should have gotten Esege’s torpedos off first shot, but I landed on an asteroid and he shot me with a crit to make my turns red instead.

Such wonderful sharing!

A few small comments - Benthic LOVES AdSen so that he can always have his focuses even on a stall. Similarly, because he has a stall on his dial, he does not need the Dampeners.

I'm not a big fan of AdSLAM because I would very much want to avoid slamming...

VetTailGun is awful. The odds of the double shot happening is next to nothing.

So, I envision:

Benthic (Pivot Wing, AdSen, PerCo, Magva)

Esege (Barrage Rockets, AdProTorps)

Garven (ExHan, AdProTorps)

So Benthic can always get his action, pass to Esege, Esege and Garven Lock, GArven uses Esege's token, gives it back, so they both have double modded shots, 3 dice at range 2-3, 5 dice at range 1. Benthic, being the lynchpin, has Magva to punish being targeted.

Yeaaaah I really wanted to try Inertial Dampeners on a U-Wing, but I forgot how low of initiative I was flying whoops. ?

I’ll definitely look into making some of those other tweaks if I want, too, thanks!

Also...why would you want the middle ground? The high ground is where its at lolololol

Barrage Rockets seem pointless too when you already have a double mod combo. Perhaps take Cluster Missiles instead for the double tap, you might get lucky and not need to use both or either of your mods on the first hit.

*edit* Maybe amend like this.

UT-60D U-wing - Benthic Two Tubes - 64
•Benthic Two Tubes - Cavern Angels Marksman (47)
Perceptive Copilot (10)
Magva Yarro (7)
Pivot Wing (Open) (0)

BTL-S8 K-wing - Esege Tuketu - 78
•Esege Tuketu - Selfless Hero (50)
Adv. Proton Torpedoes (6)
Cluster Missiles (5)
Bomblet Generator (5)
Han Solo (12)

ARC-170 Starfighter - Garven Dreis - 58
•Garven Dreis - Red Leader (51)
Marksmanship (1)
Adv. Proton Torpedoes (6)

Total: 200/200

So Benthic Focuses, passes one off to Esege. Esege drops bombs, target locks. Garven target locks. The Esege gets a shot with Han on a Turret at I7; Garven shoots at I4 and passes off. Esege can use cluster missiles for double taps or Adv. Protons for a solid 5 dice. If Benthic has been targeted at any point he also gets a possible double modded retaliation

I posted this right as I was going to bed and I noticed that this morning ? ((I built this because I wanted to fly the three different Rebel medium bases together, in case that wasn’t clear at all.))

There are tons of options for sure. I think part of why I brought Barage was because it’s new to me and I wanted to try it, but you have a valid point on not needing the mods it brings.

As for your mentioning not wanting AdSlam, earlier, I’m probably leaving it on unless I really want the points elsewhere. If Esege is left alone or gets stranded like he did my first game with this, he needs SLAM to stand a chance.

I don't think Barrage is about the mods, but rather about the high charge count. 5 actually respectable shots

If you can get the mods and line up the shot that many times, maybe? But being able to shoot it twice and use the other three charges for rerolls as necessary is pretty great, too, and saves your action economy some trouble. It's a wonderfully versatile card in that way.
