Does just having IG88D crew, grant the ability to benefit from other IGs?

By Ironlord, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Example:

Escape Craft (Outer Rim Pioneer) - with IG 88D as crew.

IG-88A with IG-2000

other ships.

"You have the pilot ability of each other friendly ship with the IG-2000 upgrade."

Does "You" refer to whatever ship has IG-88D riding in back - with the ship not having to have the IG-2000 upgrade itself?

Given that the Aggressor does not have a crew upgrade, IG-88D Crew can only ride in other ships - so it would make sense to rule it that way.

And so, can the escape pod use IG88A's ability, so being able to transfer its calculate tokens gained from having IG-88D doing calculate actions, to other ships?

It works the exact same way as it does in 1.0 with the added benefit of letting you Calculate for 2 tokens.

That about gets it.

Yup, you pretty much got it. Whoever IG-88D is riding with, gets the other Brobot's powers. That doesn't mean that the Brobots get THAT ship's abilities: the transfer is only one-way. In your above example, the Outer Rim Pioneer does get IG-88A's calculate-sharing abilities, but IG-88A does not freely get the escape craft's power to shoot while on rocks.

An interesting question, though... given the Escape Craft's "Co-Pilot" ship trait, does that mean IG-88D also transfers the other brobot's power to the Falcon, while docked?

Yup, I came here to say just that. It's a neat interaction.

BUT

It doesn't give the Calc action to the carrier, so the majority of the abilities are useless.

I dunno... YT-1300s love to boost, so pairing with IC-88C might not be that bad...

...I just realized that it might NOT work. The Scum YT-1300 would indeed get its docked shuttle's ability, but given that it would be in reserves, would the docked shuttle's IG-88D also function... or would he be unable to pull his buddy's ability to the Escape Craft?

It doesn't give the calc action to the Falcon that the Escape Craft is docked to.

Good question. I would argue that the IG88D ability should take place at list building, but... it would need official confirmation.

Start the game with the escape craft undocked to make use of IG-88. While the ship is docked, the crew card can't do anything

Well first, you take L3 as the pilot, cause droids. She has one of the most advanced droid brain in the galaxy yet doesn't calculate and IG-88 being on the shuttle wouldn't give her that. That shuttle does gain the other IG-88 pilot ability, so yeah, that pilot ability is now on the falcon. The real issue is that it just isn't that good. You are looking at boost and evade on a ship that needs to calculate or turn its turret. There are so many things competing for that one action. I guess you can take Lando as the shuttle pilot, always be blue banking and then boosting and hope that keeps something in the firing arc while getting a reroll on offense and the evade. All of that for a two dice turret primary. I guess that works in a super chill list.

Personally I think you are better off taking two IGs and just the escape craft with L3 and an IG and use it to coordinate or spread tokens.
