FiveRingsDB rulings (threads beginning with [Ruling])

By Bayushi Shunsuke, in L5R LCG: Rules Discussion

Hi all,

I've taken up the task of maintaining the rulings on 5RDB.
To assist, I have created a webform for submissions of questions and answers sent to Tyler.

https://form.jotform.co/82138997823875

It would be great if people could use this form, so we can make an attempt to keep everything in one palce.

Cheers
Wayne

If possible, you should put the link to the form in a visible place in FiveringsDB (maybe in the rules section?), so we know where to go to find it quickly, because this post eventually will go down and will be impossible to find.

Oh, and thanks for taking all that work for us ?

Not to be a nay-sayer, as I much prefer fiveringsdb over cardgamedb, but does it make sense to have the rulings in both places? Especially since Cardgamedb is official for FFG?

If they can keep it better organized for finding individual rulings than yes. I know personally I find tracking rulings down difficult as they don't link them to the card descriptions whereas with Fiverings they include a link to the rulings in all the card entries so finding them is much easier.

Ideally, rulings would all be in one location. Sadly this is not how things are, currently. (Not implying anything is changing, just that things could).

Honestly, I'd prefer to take rulings off of cardgamedb. The lack of search functionality is a pain.
Alternatively, I could add them here...

I'm going to start adding some rulings to these forums.

I would greatly appreciate people refraining from posting chatter in those threads (to create a great source of rulings, we need to keep random noise to a minimum).

Any post that I create that has a title that begins with [Ruling] is an official developer ruling that I have received (either by direct email or via the form above).
It is a copy of a question sent to FFG via their official web, and a copy of the email from Tyler containing the response.

Hi. I’ve noticed that the rules in fiveringsdb has not been updated to match the last RRG.

Also, the Hawk Tattoo card page has not been updated with the errata from said RRG.

Don’t know if you’re the one in charge of making the changes, or you just submit them, but I thought I’ll let you know.

I make the changes to the rulings on the card pages.
I submit updates the RRG page on 5RDB, but need it approved.
Once I get RRG 1.6 approved, I will update the card rulings accordingly (so I can point to a correct RRG link).
Aiming to have it all done this weekend.

Nice! I was asking because I was to show the Hawk Tattoo errata to a friend during a game and didn’t find it, and I didn’t know if it was because you haven’t had time to update or because you missed it, so I thought I will mention it here.

Keep up the good work!

When in doubt, it's in the official Rules Reference, under Card Errata. Whenever it gets updated, I print off a fresh copy, and keep it with my cards.

I know. Normally I just use FiveringsDB because it’s easier to search, both by card and the Rules Reference.

Also, I try to avoid printing anything if not completely necessary.

How far behind are you? I submitted the rulings I got regarding My Ancestor's Strength vs Unleash the Djinn and Kaito Temple Protector about a month ago now and last I looked they weren't updated yet.

Please note: I am not trying to give you a hard time for being slow. I'm grateful for the work you're doing. I'm just asking to double check if you're still getting caught up or if the submission got lost in the ether and needed to be resent.

Should be caught up within the next day or two.

So, I still don't quiet get this. What makes CGDB more 'official' than any other place? I have been unable to locate any sign or branding by either FFG or Azmodee and none of the their videos, blogs, or podcasts have anything to do with any official channels. Mostly just seems the community has decided it is official and ran with it.

FFG bought the site in 2013. There was a press release at the time but they honestly haven't done much with it since.

What schmoozies said. Though I thought at one point Tyler said he'd post official rulings to it.

All the developer rulings I've seen on fiveringsdb actually link to a cardgamedb forum post, without exception.

Yeah, but that was just an user (mplain) submitting rules questions through FFG’s oficial form, and then posting them in CGDB.

It’s the same that Bayushi Shunsuke is doing in this forums.
