So who gets the ARC-170?

By Piratical Moustache, in Star Wars: Armada

So assuming that cross-faction ships/squadrons doesn't happen in future Waves, will the Rebels or Imperials get this awesome squadron?*

*I would like to state that I have no preference...

With only those two factions? The Alliance. They canonically used them -with fervour- whereas the Imperials preferedded V19s, switching to V Wings and then TIE fighters... snybusevif the ARC170 in imperial forces are anecdotally annotated at best, where’s even if the Alliance didn’t use them often, it fits their entire “If it flies, fly it” motif.

Canon Rebel aces could be Shara Bey, Thane Kyrell, Braylen Stramm, and Norra Wexley, according to Wookieepedia all of them flew the ARC-170 at some point.

Here's Stramm flying one, not that you can really tell because of the blacked out windows.

Canonical Rebels flew ARC 170s? I thought that was just something FFG made up to sell their ARC 170 for X-Wing, never heard of any Rebel ARC 170 pilots outside of FFG material. While on the other hand we see the ARC 170 heavily beeing used by the Empire in a lot of Legends comics.

I checked the Wookieepedia referenced for just that reason : apparently, they were mentioned/used in the Poe Dameron comic (all other references were Clone Wars), so there is potential for the Rebel Refit to be a canon thing after all, but never having picked up and read a star wars comic, I cannot confirm.

As for why the Imperials could get it:

"ARC-170s continued to see use in the Imperial Navy at least five years after the proclamation of the New Order as the newer TIE line came into production. Squadrons of ARC-170s were deployed from an older-generation Venator-class Star Destroyer to assist Governor Wilhuff Tarkin and the Executrix during the Campaign at Salient."

A wish of mine is for the next Wave to be an Imperial Venator and ARC-170s packaged with it, and a Rebel Lucrehulk.

Obviously these ships are more notably used during the Clone Wars, but I am still on the fence whether or not Armada should have a CW Edition. FFG's already slow release schedule would divert resources to make the Republic and CIS, leaving the Imperials and Rebels neglected most likely.

It's not a TIE, so it doesn't fit the Imperial idiom. I'm thinking they should be Rebs.

You're afraid they'll walk away from their current system of neglect to inflict a whole new era of neglect? That's deep man ;)

I turned off my auto correct. You can tell, because it let me type 'auto correct', without auto-correcting it to "auto carrot"...

That's gotta be some of the worst auto carrot I've ever seen!

Ive said before, the optimal way to do it is release Republic Transition ships; Acclamator, Venator, Arc-170s, LAAT/s,i,ect. For the empire. They are ships that were used in transition into the empire.

Also release Lucrehulk Prime, and more CIS ships for rebels. ****, you can even throw in droid fighters just to make it so people CAN play Republic vs CIS.

Then, release, two Clone Wars Conversion Kit. One for each CW faction.

Republic:

- Venator

- Acclamator

- Pelta

- Arquitens

- Consular

- CR90 (or 70s or whatever)

CIS:

- Lucrehulk

- Providence

- Muunificent

- Gozanti

- ect.

You get my point. These conversion kits would let you switch out the cards for either of the new factions. Thus, REBELS and EMPIRE would still get new ships, (some people would be unhappy still, because 'fans') and it would set up nicely, all you would really have to do is paint the Republic colors onto the republic ships, not too hard.
