How are your 2.0 games going?

By Kehl_Aecea, in X-Wing

Mine have been great! I may not win them all, but they're way more exciting now. In 1.0 the games I played were usually one sided massacres. The last dozen games I played have been close, usually coming down to a couple of hull left on a single ship on each side What's even better is having TIE interceptors being downright scary and TIE Fighters being a legitimate threat. K-Wings aren't the monsters they were... just everything is so friggin fun to use now.

Played 2 yesterday (my first 2.0 ones)!

Won the first with Brobots vs 3X (lists made by the other guy, as my ships haven't arrived yet)

Lost the second with an on-the-fly list (Whisper Phantom, 3 named TIEs) vs Vader, Mauler TIE and Rexler Defender (also an on-the-fly list) (it was a close one)

mmmmeh?

I don't see how ties or interceptors are scary.

Awesome! Played Scum Aces for my 2 games and I was felt on top of the world against a Deci Defender and then a Vader/Whisper/Wampa List. 3rd game I played a scum swarm with Drea, Jakku Gunrunner, 2 Cartel Marauders, 2 Banana Pirates and shredded a Ghost even with reinforce. Still Unbeaten...probs not for long.

I think Corran isn’t worth the point over a rogue squadron E. Kinda surprising.

i had a game with Deathrain, Echo, and Whisper vs Nym, Guri, and a tugboat last an hour/half before something outside turn1 died (that tugboat had boba so it was instantly in R2 of all 3 of my ships, it died quick).

Punisher was just constantly a cockblock or bomb-diverted so it never got shot at that much, or atleast never got shot by more than one thing. Both my phantoms had Gonk and shield upgrade...lol...so every time they actually took damage i just regen'd it.

Fun as ****, other than the bull green dice as per usual (lost a game to 8 blanks in a row...would've won with literally a single focus result)

Games are vastly superior to 1st ed, with far more variety and emphasis placed on actual manuevering rather than ps races

Currently all in on empire (generally barrage bombers + a guy) and scum (moldy and friends). Lists range from 3-5 ships and it's wonderful

I've also been having a great time. I'm usually full of casual X-wing after 3 games, or so; I could have played all day at my FLGS's launch party.

Side note: I need to work on my flying (either I was never that good, or it just means more now)!

I got in two games over the weekend running a Luke Norra quickstart list. I wanted to try the new turrets and the new Force abilities and I have to say the game feels right. In my second match, it was Vader and two Ties, the ties went down quick but Luke had quite a bit of staying power with his Force abilities and R2-D2 fixing the shields. It took Vader a long time to hunt Luke down.

I like the addition of the charge mechanic, you have limited uses of these abilities and I like the addition of ammo to the ordnance. Single shot never sat well and then dropping more points in seemed odd. I really like the new way.

The facing on the turrets is a nice addition that will take some skill to get gud at.

Overall, for the cost of the starter and a conversion kit, I am very happy with the upgrade to the game. Thanks FFG for a smart transition to 2.0.

I still think that every single one of them is too expensive though. I can't think of much of a reason to field the E-Wing at all at the moment.

There were a lot of us that quit playing X-wing when they announced 2nd Ed. We are just flying again for the first time in months and we are terrible at it. We guess wrong and land on lots of rocks. So, there is getting back into the game and not flying terrible.

Beyond that, I've had a lot of fun. The games are more about what you do in the game than what you built the list as. It's refreshing. My last two games were incredibly close and both of them were down to 1 ship each trying to out fly each other. Very exciting.

@Blail Blerg one Tie Fighter isn't scary (though you should respect it), but 4+ is pretty scary. Their 3 green dice can go crazy lucky at times (especially with a Focus) and their 2 attack dice aren't terrible anymore. As for Tie Interceptors, I have seen them flown incredibly well with their built in PTL. They have managed to evade some firing arcs and done some real damage. I'm thinking of flying some.

Approx 15 games so far in V2.0 (IRL & Vassal). Ratio Victory/Loss 3-1 approx. Always playing Rebels (xwing, y wing & tried a K-wing/Esege)

Highlights: (basically my squad)

- T-65 are now real threat! Wedge is crazy! With Proton Torpedoes & Outmaneuver... Don't let this guys going at your 6 O'clock...

- Dutch for the win! Best wingman ever with R3. And the new Y-wing model! Just Awesome

- Thane.. Put the Proton torps on him and you'll see magic.

......

What I really like:

- Vader with Supernatural Reflex. This is CRAZYYYYYYYY SICK. I have seen maneuver that make me wanna play Imps...

- Everything related to the Force.

- The change on the Turret. Not the same game

- Seismic bombs.. LOVE them. Did I mention that my Dutch has a few with him?

.....

What I don't like:

- we cannot play everyday! :)

V2.0 just relaunched the game! WOW!!

Got three games in at a launch party yesterday, had a lot of fun. And I mean a LOT of fun.

The game's still familiar, but there's a lot of little changes that are going to take a bit of getting used to. Most notably half points for half health on every ship. In the last game I was playing against Imperial Aces, and didn't even realise I was still ahead in the last round due to two(2!!) damage on Soontir giving me a LOT of points.

Which is amazing, really. Do enough damage and your opponents can no longer run and turtle up, they HAVE to engage and try and earn points. It'll make for some really tense finishes.

Scarcity of passive modifiers makes actions much more valuable. Action choice is a real dilemma now, especially with the potential to fail Locks, Boosts or Barrel Rolls, and having to rotate arcs.

What else can I say? The game is refreshed, the ruleset is tighter and the meta is wide open. Good times!

So far so good! We had our first small casual tournament yesterday. We all were enjoying the new mechanics; BUT we also all realized that Vader may be a bit too powerful. Let's see how it continues as more people are giving v2.0 a shot!

Horrible! I haven't been able to play a single one yet!

They’ve all been really close, only played around 6.

It’s fun to see everyone excited again and working out new ways to play.

Personally I would keep it minimal for as long as possible rather than than bringing all the ships in, but that’s just because I love basic games.

It’s weird not to have so many fully modified 5 hit shots against me!

I've been very much enjoying TIE Bombers.

Obviously. :)

Oh, y'all, I haven't had this much fun playing X-Wing (except for Epic matches) in years. It's a game of maneuver and placement again - upgrades are useful, but not game-defining anymore.

Our launch night event was an escalation tournament, and it was great. I won both my matches, losing the tournament overall to a roll-off. Got in a couple of 200-point games afterwards, and another couple the next night at a different store. X-Wing's fun again!

Why exactly are their two dice not terrible anymore?

I’m noticing I c an get some huge damage mitigation via force users, coordinate and the r3 Astro renegeation.

Lack of as many token stacks. Change to evade and reinforce mechanics. Those are the big ones. Basically you can push damage through in the early game by volume of attacks.

Anyone that doesn't fear a TIE, isn't brave, but inexperienced. TIEs will tear most things up if you don't start popping them quick, which Iden loves to make not happen.

I'm currently practicing for Corusant. Some of the lists I have come up with that actually work, is refreshing. I've gotten at least 15 games of 2.0 in and all of them have been enjoyable.

Every game I’ve played was fun and close*, including one where we were 100-100 when we called time, so it was a little surreal when my first 2.0 game came down to a final salvo.

*I had one game that was fun but not close, where I SLAM’d a gunboat next to a freighter captain to dodge arc and set up the next pass. He ioned me in that engagement phase, and immediately I saw my mistake... it took him 3 turns, but he walked my full health ship off the board. I was not prepared for that in 2.0, but it’s not a mistake I’ll make again.

You haven't played against me. :) I love my Squints - they tear up whatever I'm gunning for and they're squirrely enough to remain a thorn in my opponent's side so they have to shoot at them. This distracts them from my bombers that keep pouring barrage rockets into them. I lovelovelove 2.0. I haven't had this much fun playing X-wing since my first game.

What he said. Also, force users only regen 1 force a turn. Shield regen isn't unlimited and you can't shoot.

I just got my back side kicked by my wife again!

Can't wait for Resistence...
