Been a long time since I played XWMG seriously, guys. Last time I got anything new and used it in a store was when TLT was still fresh as ****. Now, I always liked Rebels, I love my HWK, and I especially love the SOLO Falcon, so I'm torn, folks.
I dunno' if I should play Rebel..? Or if I should try and go scum? I love Rebel synergy, but man, I want an excuse to use that flashy new Falcon, fang fighters, so on and so forth. Privateer boyos are very cool! So I'd love to build a collection of them, and yet...
I would also love to explore my Rebel options, since I adore good proper Y-Wings, but I guess Scum has those too huh? Anyway, the reason I ask is this.
I intend to play The Resistance unless The First Order REALLY wows me. I mean like, wows me. I admit that since the FO is split away from the rebels, the appeal of FO-ing up my TIEs is a little less appealing now 'cause I can't use Interceptors in the FO and such. ![]()
So I'm wondering.
Wait for The Resistance, my true homeboys, or dive into Scum or Rebels? I like larger, tougher but still agile vessels, and yes of course, I do like turrets. But I also enjoy nimble fighters with fun gimmicks. Soontir Fel was just too fun to fly in 1.0.
I'm torn, guys! What dost thy Lackwit DO!?
All fresh and new again..! And confused. HELP.
Are you asking for buying advise or play advise? If you have these things you experiment my good captain. There is no better teacher than experience.
While I've held off on Scum myself (I DO intend to convert and get Lando's Falcon soon... I just couldn't justify it at the time I converted the Imps and Rebels), I think if you go for Scum, you'll be able to scratch that itch you have and just grab what you fancy as time goes on so you can dabble in a little of everything.
I am patiently waiting for Resistence to come, playing with my wife's Rebels as a filler. Maybe I will play Falcon (square anthena) along with HWK-290 (my only remaining Rebel ship) and two Core Set TIE Fighters.
I'm in a similar position. I went to my local launch party and it made me feel like seriously getting back into things, but I really don't know where to start. Trying things out isn't even that easy at the moment, since I don't have any Conversion Kits, because it's a big investment for me right now when I don't even know what I'm going to do.
You can buythe Scum Falcon, and then get a secnd hand base and dial from a conversion kit to fly it as Rebel and/or Resistance.

Good option! I had considered it. Suppose it would be tournament legal if modified models are fine too.

Same honestly.

A patient man. I respect that.

Makes sense!

That's just it- I really don't have these things, and I'm looking for both types of Advice.
Gotta say I'm personally not a fan of Rebels
I feel like I could buy only Xwings + a moldy and have literally everything interesting they have to offer, short of attack shuttle Sabine (who is basically a mini-xwing)
Everything else just feels slow, clunky, and inferior to the blobs scum and empire can produce
Xwings ARE flippin grand, though, as they have a wide variety of interesting pilots and Sevromotor usage is very involved AND essential to master. You can make a mobile Biggs Blob with Garven synergy, or race around with Kullbee and Thane with closed s-foils, and everything inbetween.
Overall, though, much happier with the variety of options provided by Empire and Scum

Sounds to me like you'd prefer Scum.
To add fuel to that fire, remember that with the faction-splitting now occurring (but not affecting Scum which remains a "catch-all" faction), there will presumably be more future Scum releases to pick up and enjoy then there will be Rebel releases. Any "scummish" ships form the Prequel Era or the Sequel Era will be Scum ships, but those eras will not provide any ships to the Rebels or Imperials. So if you go Scum, your collection and your options will likely grow more often than if you go Rebel, which also means Scum is more likely to have stronger competitive options down the road versus the other six factions which will stagnate much more.

Oooohhh... Ooooohhhh... Ooohohohohoooooo...
Those are EXCEPTIONAL points.

^^^ This
The only Rebel lists I've seen doing remotely well are spammed X-Wings, sometimes with a Y-Wing but mostly just XXXX or XXX, often with Luke. Jury is out if the HWK can really be worth its points, but the rest of the Rebel line-up is "meh" to "ugh" at best.

Love the HWK with all my heart but you're right.
Scum has quite a few nimble AND slow options too. Huhm.

Indeed. It may well be years before a new ship is added to the Rebel Faction.
Solo = may still add the Heavy TIE to the Empire, but no Rebel ships
Clone Wars factions = no Rebel Ships
Episode 9, The Resistance cartoon = no Rebel Ships
And those two eras are likely to make up the bulk of the next couple years' worth of releases... yet we already know the Scum have a brand-new ship in the pipeline via the Mining Guild TIE alongside the new Resistance A-Wing.
After that, the best hope for the Rebels/Empire to get new ships would be Favreau's live action tv-series. But it's set almost a decade after RotJ and is meant to bridge the OT and the ST, while focusing on new unknown characters. So very likely to have lots of "scum" type of people, and then it'll be a bit of a crapshoot as to whether it's adding Rebels or Resistance (or Empire or First Order).

Mh, those are solid points yeah. Can't think of much source material for them to pull from since they're rooting themselves into canon hard these days. If they still want to pull from X-Wing of old, the games and whatnot, they've still got stuff- but not a whole lot. The YT-2000 would be a good dual-faction ship to release, but I don't see that happening.
Not sure how helpful this will be, but I'll compile a list of ships I personally feel are worth your time
* = Haven't played but look fascinating
rebs:
Xwings
Moldy
Sabine shuttle
Empire
Bombers
Phantoms
Punishers
Reapers

Alpha Starwing
Aggressor (Kestal)
*Defender (singular)
*Strikers
*Lambda
*TIE/v1
Scum
Moldy
Ywing (Drea)
Khirax
Kimoglia
Kuadjumper
Firespray
Starvipers
Scyk (serissu)

Personal preference only, of, which is why I didn't list things like the TIE/Dv, TIE swarm, interceptors, or Z-95s
