Tournament Rule: Number of Dice

By gemixin, in Star Wars: Destiny

Hi there

In the official tournament rules it states you must have one dice per card in your deck.

Does this apply to unique cards? So if I have a unique upgrade like Maul’s Lightsaber, I could only ever have one copy in play and therefore only ever need one die. Do I have to have 2 dice for the tournament anyway?

Yes. It doesn't really make any sense for unique cards, but yes.

Realistically though, it's unlikely that anyone is going to call you on it, outside of maybe not having two dice for a non unique card (though you're only really screwing yourself in that case).

You can Be DQ'ed if you have 2 cards but 1 die. If a player calls for a deck check on another player the TO or judge will verify card to Die. If you don't have it a TO or Judge can DQ you for not having a complete deck. I seen it done and had to do twice myself.

Any card that has a die to it you must have a die for it even if it is unique.

Related question: What about having extra dice lying around? Are you supposed to bring just the dice that go with your deck, or can you have a few extras mixed in?

I ask because I've got a box that I use to store a deck and dice, and it also has a little extra room. I actually used to use it to store two sleeved decks of 60 cards each for the old SW:CCG game by Decipher, so it's obviously much bigger than I need for just one sleeved deck and dice for Destiny.

So I also store extra cards that I might want to trade into the deck when I tweak it, and the dice that go with those extra cards. The deck cards I'm playing that day are the only ones sleeved, and I just pull out the dice as I need them. But if my opponent wanted to see what dice I have in that box to know what's in my deck or something, it would likely be deceiving, since I usually have 2-4 extra dice in there that go with the cards that aren't currently in the deck.

As dice remain hidden until used it shouldn't be a problem.

However the rules do not say yes or no. Best then to ask the TO before the games start.

Think of it as pay to win. Accept it until Keyforge comes out. I love this game but in my area it's becoming increasingly difficult to find players

Thanks all, I'll be sure to include all relevant dice then. Just to check, this doesn't apply to characters that you are running single die versions of (but have elite options)? I.e I can run one die Wedge and only need to bring one die?

Correct. Honestly unless it's a national championship or world's no one is going to check or care. People at world's had incorrect deck lists and they did nothing but correct the lists.

As Amanal says, your dice aren't normally visible to your opponent, and you are allowed to keep them hidden. So having more...which is not prohibited by the rules, so go ahead and store them however you want...is not an issue. Having less dice than you have cards for is an issue, but not one that's likely to impact you unless you're at the top level of an event.

You need to have the dice for the deck you are running. So if you have a normal, 1 dice version of a character...let's call him Wedge...you don't need two dice, just because that character CAN be run elite. Only if you're running him elite will you need both dice.

Of course, with characters, you literally CAN'T run them elite with only once die.

Hello, I think next question correspondes to this topic. Recently I faced with situation when my opponent played Prized possession and took one of my eLuke2 dices (now he starts non-elite). After that I used Way of the Force card and placed 3rd die of Luke. Could I act this way and bring 3 Luke dices on tournament?

So you brought Way of the Force for your other character originally? You can bring 3 Luke dice to a tournament, but it wouldn't do anything since you can't play Way of the Force on him unless someone plays Prized Possession.

Actually, playing Way of the Force wouldn’t bring Luke’s dice back. The way WotF is worded, it makes the character elite. Well with Prized Possession, it doesn’t make him non-elite, it just makes it so you can’t roll that dice into your pool. Therefore he is elite but rolling one dice into the pool. Just like Carbon Feezing Chamber doesn’t make the character non-elite. Both cards act more like automatic removal.

Yes, I brought WotF for other character. PeoplesChampion, but the second part of this card's text words "place a second copy of it's die on it". After Prized possession usage, there is only one copy of it's die. So, from my point of view, I can place a second copy.

Given that that’s in parentheses, that is only reminder text, and does not have any force. That issue was brought up with the introduction of indirect damage, and the RRG states that all text within parentheses is reminder text. So there are older cards, Unyielding for instance, that only have ranged and melee symbols in the parentheses but can be used on indirect dice as well. So in the case of WotF, saying to give the character a second dice is only defining what making a character elite is. The only thing WotF does is make your character elite. Since Luke is already elite, just unable to roll in his second dice, WotF does not change his dice situation.

Ok, thanks for explanation!

It is possible to use both copies of a die for some unique upgrades. If your opponent is running old Grievous and he steals your Maul's Lightsaber from a defeated character, you could then play your second copy of Maul's Lightsaber on a different one of your characters. Both dice would be in play simultaneously.

Woah, that’s true! I had never thought of that. Impressive.

Even if that does work, (not sure if it does or not) you would be using one their Maul's Lightsaber die, so it wouldn't matter if you had two dice or not.

I think you misunderstand the example. Player is has 2 copies of Maul's Lightsaber in his deck, but only brings 1 die. Player 2 has AWK Grievous, and defeats players 1's character that has Maul's saber equipped. He steals the saber.

Player 1 then draws his second copy of Maul's saber. He now can't play it, because he only has one die.

Ya, I guess I did. I read that you have Grievous and steal one of thier Maul's Lightsabers.
